Stratford Catfish Farm Grows On Waterlogged 80-Acre Spread

Royces Charles and Jerry Smith run an 80 acre catfish operation near Stratford where about 60 acres are flooded. The farm opened in 1970 as a sideline to other farming and uses 14 ponds with ponds stocked for public fishing while monitoring oxygen levels and feeding patterns to control disease and predators. Smith notes the venture is more about enjoyment than profit though a profitable year may be near as the operation grows.
