County Soldier Earns Silver Star
Pfc. James W. Smith of Ada Route 9 earns the Silver Star for wounds suffered December 1968 in Vietnam. He received the award March 14 while stationed at Fort Sill. The citation credits his gallantry during a recon in force mission with Company A 1st Battalion 27th Infantry, saving lives and destroying enemy positions under heavy fire.
