Fire Destroys East Main Market in Ada
Fire Chief Billie Ellis and Police Chief Cecil Smith say an amateur safe cracking attempt caused the blaze at Standard Market on East Main Street. A rear door was forced and nitroglycerin charges exploded on the safe causing a large fire that destroyed the store and forced 13 employees from work. Investigators found copper wiring and drilled safe holes, with evidence pointing to an explosive attempt from inside the building. The incident halted operations and damaged nearby boxes used for groceries.

George Carter Re elected Head of Oakman Sportsmen
Oakman Sportsmen met March 6 at 7 p.m. in the school gym. About six percent attended and enjoyed fried fish with trimmings. George Carter was re elected president, Albert Pevehous vice president, Mildred Current secretary. A six member land committee was appointed. Pig Men Adopt Constitution and Plan Feeder Pig Sale
The PonIoToe and Coal County Livestock Association will meet March 6 to adopt a constitution and by laws and form a Sales committee for plans and agreements toward the first annual feeder pig sale set for May 9 in Oklahoma. A state charter application was approved and a grading committee was named to select pigs for the sale. Directors and members will be recruited in March, with memberships offered to promote the event.
