Oklahoma City March 6 Doctors may testify about a client's ailments if a third person is present during a medical examination the state supreme court ruled. The decision affirmed a Tulsa county ruling in favor of an insurer sued by Hilda Reed regarding a test for her husband before he bought a policy.
At Huntsville Texas three of five prisoners trying to break from the state penitentiary were critically wounded by guards. They escaped cell row with a self made key and descended a fire escape before guards halted the bid.
Alfred E Smith in New Outlook denounces the proposed child labor amendment as a federal Frankenstein and urges a state regulation approach with a ban on transporting goods made by under sixteen across state lines. He calls the twenty second amendment unreasonable and warns of federal usurpation and trouble. He notes the only argument is preventing unprogressive states from dumping such products into progressive ones.
Fort Smith Ark March 3 Ford Bradshaw the elusive Cookson hills outlaw died at a roadhouse in Ar koma Oklahoma after a confrontation with Bill Harper LeFlore county deputy sheriff and other officers. Bradshaw tied to Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker fame was shot as he attacked Harper and attempted to escape with a pistol and vest taken earlier from him. A woman identified as Mary Jane Fields was jailed at Poteau after Bradshaw’s death and linked to his gang.
Britain announces navy estimates for 1934 totaling 56.55 million pounds, up 2.98 million, funding four cruisers two new leaders eight destroyers an aircraft carrier submarines sloops mine sweepers and more while increasing naval personnel to 92 338 officers and men and 884 royal marine police. Toledo strikes erupt as machinists walk out at Toledo Machine and Tool Co with 500 expected but company says 250 left.
President Roosevelt named Florence E. Allen of Cleveland to the federal circuit court of appeals, making her the first woman federal judge. Allen, then on the Ohio supreme court, had the backing of Senator Bulkley. The president also appointed Frank P. Corrigan of Cleveland as minister to El Salvador.
H. J. Freeman, an oil company employee from Perry, was pinned beneath the truck he was driving when it overturned after hitting a bridge six miles southeast of Enid. He died in an Enid hospital last night shortly after the accident. Freeman leaves a widow.
Reports claim a decomposed arm was found near Ada triggering a wide range of theories about a mutilated body. Investigations showed the arm existed but no body, no murderer in jail, and rumors were debunked as inflations amid local inquiries.

In Greenwood Mississippi on March 3 1940 Dr Sarah Ruth Dean 36 a baby specialist was found guilty of murder in the death of Dr John Preston Kennedy 41. The jury sentenced her to life in prison at hard labor and deliberated nearly 14 hours. She received a $10000 bond to await a motion for a new trial with 90 days for argument preparation. The widow of the deceased charged Dean with breaking up her home and confronted the district attorney in court.
Washington March 6 In line with the drive to reemploy at least a million in private industry the house labor committee voted unanimously for a flat 30 hour week for NRA industries subject to a government board for shortages or emergencies. Despite opposition from Perkins Johnson and Hopkins the committee seeks immediate action while code authorities meet to discuss the plan and critics call it another pill.
Jimmie Wilson and Ben McKinley from the Tulsa H O L C office and Olin W. Jones of Pontotoc and Creek counties visited Ada to review operations. The county has $230,000 in loan bonds and $28,000 in taxes tied to 117 pending applications, with 87 percent of closed loans under 3000.
Oklahoma City March 3 signature seekers push three constitutional amendments. A new old age pension proposal would tax lubricating oil cigars radios and fire insurance premiums and add filing fees to fund monthly pensions from 15 to 35 dollars for women and 25 to 35 for men. J F Nighswander of El Reno leads the campaign. Each petition requires about 106000 signers.
Washington March 2 President Roosevelt asked Congress for authority to modify tariff duties through executive commercial agreements with foreign nations. He argued world trade has fallen about 70 percent since 1929 and that reciprocal treaties help nations gain share of trade. The plan would last three years, with tariff adjustments up or down to 56 percent, then revert to the tariff commission.
Ten men and two girls escaped from Denton county jail in Texas. The youths Evelyn Bartee aged 17 and Audell Hampton aged 16 led the breakout by picking a lock and moving through the jail to unlock cells. They and accomplices Eddie Bunch Theodore Hawk and Jesse Lee Taylor were later recaptured. Bunch and Taylor face burglary charges while Hawk faced robbery with firearms.
New York reports over 360 million dollars of gold arriving from Europe in February as the dollar adjusts after January 31 devaluation. Banks profited by buying gold in London and Paris and selling to the U S Treasury at 35 dollars per ounce, though heavy dollar sales have eroded profits on imports.
Veterans of Industry of America led by Ira Finley of Oklahoma City plan to petition President Roosevelt to seek old age pensions from Congress. Finley says funding would come from a 5 to 10 percent manufacturers' sales tax.

Giles Jack Boggess, 45, an unemployed tailor, shot dead his estranged wife at her sister’s Dallas home, then killed the wife’s mother, Julia Woodward 76. Witness Martha Julia, 2, the couple’s daughter, watched as officers later intercepted Boggess’ son and another man from taking the child home. He confessed saying he could not live without wife and baby.
In Britton Oklahoma two boys Cecil Hunt 12 and Carl Spiva 15 were killed when a kite string entangled in a live wire in the Methodist orphanage yard. Superintendent L W Seaton ordered an investigation into wire protection.

R. E. Blanks today assumed duties as superintendent of the civilian conservation corps camp at Wintersmith park. He was recommended after the death of L. A. Braly, the camp’s first superintendent, creating a vacancy. Blanks has long resided in Ada and worked in real estate.
An 16 foot electrically lit cross will beckon crowds to the eighth annual Easter pageant in the Wichita mountains Lawton Oklahoma on March 5. The passion play depicts events surrounding the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and will be staged atop the mountain as in prior years.
Henry Estes, a 48-year-old farmer from Miami Oklahoma, was sentenced to five years for first degree manslaughter in the killing of Delmar Fugate, 21. The act followed Estes visiting Fugate’s home with his daughter Jeanette, who claimed Fugate fathered her unborn child. the district court jury after ten hours of deliberation imposed the term.
