Elbow rye proves best winter pasture on South Canadian River farm

Ben Theimer reports Elbow rye as the top small grain for winter pasture in his South Canadian River farm area near Ada. He notes Elbon rye survives colder ground and yields strong grazing benefits, with Elbow offering excellent pasture during severe winters and good grain yield when managed. Theimer, working with Nobel Foundation developers Dr Horace J Harper and Dr Roy Chessmore, explains crossbreeding aims and plans for seed distribution through the Oklahoma Crop Improvement Association. He pastures up to 500 acres with Elbow rye and oversees seeding, with irrigation wells described as tapping a prehistoric underground river capable of 1000 gallons per minute.
