Shooting at Castleberry Farm Ends in Death
Joe Correll aged 25 is dead after a shooting at the Castleberry home two miles north of the city. Claude Castleberry 27, a chicken farm owner, admits the shooting and is jailed awaiting preliminary hearing. Four shots were fired with one fatal bullet entering Correll’s left side and chest. Correll’s rival in a prior dispute and a laborer Charley Sutherland were present. coroner's report notes instant death. Castleberry, a World War veteran and former tuberculosis patient, stated he fired from the back porch after warning Correll’s companion to keep his hands up.
