In Needles California early today police officer Harry Thompson confronted a man identified as J L Wilson in an alley behind a business. Thompson, struck in the abdomen, opened fire and killed Wilson with three shots.
FAYETTEVILLE Ark June 10 Deputy Sheriff Frank Fletcher said the farm couple R Dell and Dorothy Hudson were to be returned to Oklahoma City by federal officers after a 13 year old girl accused them of kidnapping. Lois Eden reported she was taken from McAlester Okla under the pretense of nursing their baby and was forced to work on a homestead near here after moving from Hartshorne Okla.
Recent rains boost Oklahoma wheat prospects to between 28 million and 35 million bushels this year. Roy Pratt president of the Enid Real Estate Association reports a 30 percent gain in association business over the past two months.
Mr and Mrs Harmon Waley pleaded not guilty to two federal counts in the 200000 kidnapping of George Weyerhaeuser. They confessed to investigators while the hunt for ex convict William Mahan continued from Butte to Canada. Bond was set at 100000 on the mail fraud count and no bail on the Lindbergh law charge.
The Texas Young Democrats, joined by President Roosevelt's sons, closed a stormy two day convention with a compromise. They condemned changes to the federal constitution while endorsing NRA principles and urging a state code of ethics with minimum hours and wages and support for collective bargaining. Atlantic City June 19. In opposition to federal and state medical insurance moves the American Medical Association declared there is no cure all for social ills. Meeting in its 86th annual session with the Canadian Medical Association, it urged against lay control of medical practice and warned that surplus hospitals and new physicians weaken the profession.
In Tulsa on June 12 three youths pleaded guilty to sixteen robberies and were sentenced to a combined 425 years. Frank Williams, 21, drew 25 years for seven robberies and 20 years for a car theft. Paul Riley, 22, got 25 years for each of eight robberies. Ted Moore, 19, received 10 years for each of three robberies. All terms run concurrently.
Building of new homes to satisfy demand for five and six room houses continues. Grindstaff and Laves have two under construction and will start two more this week. Finley and Lollar have one started and will begin another this week. Foundations laid at 525 South Highland and the 100 block West Twenty second street. Two homes planned on the south end of Belmont avenue midweek. A residence at South Rennie and one on South Johnston underway. Brick veneer home for Mrs. George W. Burris on South High School avenue progressing. Concrete first floor for the new Irving school has most of its frame work poured. Link Cowan, contractor, may start second floor framework by week’s end. Other remodeling and repair work keeps trades busy in and near the city.
Ada city commissioners signed an application for a short wave police station license and planned 24 hour service through radio station KADA. The excise board must approve funding, with Mayor Willoughby backing the project and weighing a Wewoka group hook up as option.
Huntsville Texas reports the swift execution of Eligha Stuart 28 for drowning his 4 year old twin daughter and John B Willis 42 for attacking a Tyler bride after tying her husband to a tree. The Oklahoma suspect, linked to Pretty Boy Floyd, is accused of murdering City Detectives Herman son and George Grooms, Federal Agent A Raymond Caffrey, and Police Chief Otto Reed of McAlester. Oklahoma City attorney Sid White said he would apply to Governor Marland next week for clemency or parole for Matt Kimes. Tulsa obituary notes Martin Moran 77 pioneer oil man died at home of a heart attack. Born in Portage New York he entered the oil business 97 years ago and worked in Pennsylvania Illinois and Oklahoma. He moved to Oklahoma in 1907 and led Texas Pipe Line Co. of Oklahoma as president from 1917 until retirement. Survived by widow daughter Miss Margite Moran and five sons all Tulsa oil men. Funeral arrangements pending.
