Rising floodwaters inundate vast Oklahoma farmland as creeks overflow. Officials report massive crop damage and ongoing assessments across multiple counties. Farmers brace for losses while relief efforts coordinate with state agencies.
Flood waters across the Panhandle and southwestern Oklahoma washed out bridges and paralyzed rail and highway traffic. Turkey creek and Beaver creek swelled, flooding thousands of acres and forcing farmers to replant cotton while hail damaged crops. Rainfall varied, with Bartlesville and Tulsa among the wettest locales, but farmers remained hopeful for a larger wheat harvest.
A federal grand jury in Muskogee returned indictments naming Roy N. Priest former WPA employee at Ada for forgery of government checks and James H Standridge and Leon Baker of Ada for possession of counterfeit bills. Priest was arrested in connection with the disappearance of WPA payroll chief Jack Barnes. Thirteen counterfeit ten dollar notes were seized. Vernon Corbin reported one bill at a filling station between Ada and Stratford.
London police recovered Diana Battye, 21, after an eight day disappearance ending with a sobbing collapse on a doorstep near her fiancé Michael Asquith. The wealthy socialite, who had received threats and suffered a razor attack on coronation night, is under medical care.
Washington reports the Oklahoma delegation urged President Roosevelt to approve a 500000 federal grant for a Will Rogers memorial at Claremore Oklahoma. Funds would be matched locally and donors would offset any excess by reducing federal finance.
Four tornadoes swept through central and eastern Oklahoma on Wednesday night killing a farm woman and injuring at least 10 others. Fannie Thornton died when her farm home near Union City was demolished. Frank Tubbs and his wife were critically hurt as the wind destroyed their house and two other residents sustained minor injuries.
A deadly tornado near Union City killed 68 year old Mrs. Fannie Thornton, crippled, trapped in her wrecked farmhouse as husband John Hix and daughter Mary failed to reach her in time. The storm damaged homes around Cushing and Moore, injuring several, with depots and farms reported destroyed.

Owners or operators were ordered to confer with county attorney W. W. Stanfield. The money will go to the court fund.
Austin Texas June 9 The court of criminal appeals the States high tribunal in criminal cases ruled today that bank night lotteries were illegal The court had been considering a Bonham test case for more than a year The Supreme Court ruled months ago that bank nights were against public policy but did not decide if they were lotteries.
Two separate Ada accidents occurred Tuesday morning with no serious injuries. Loyd Roberts’s southbound car on Thirteenth crossed Broadway colliding with Margaret Green’s eastbound vehicle. Green received first aid and was treated at a local hospital. In the second crash, taxi driver Jack Crawford’s westbound car on Twelfth crossed Townsend Avenue struck Iris Long’s northbound vehicle. no injuries were reported.
Brady Watson filed in district court for custody of nine year old Billie Jean Watson. Grandmother Eva Bennett had a habeas corpus petition dismissed. The child was left with Mrs. Bennett and later with Audra Garrett amid a continuing custody dispute involving Lena Watson and Tom Allphin.
Three Pontotoc county officers and a witness returned from Muskogee where they testified in federal court regarding a counterfeiting case. Vernon Corbin testified against Jim Standridge and Leon Baker, charged with passing and attempting to pass counterfeit $10 bills. 12 notes totaling $130 were seized, the largest sum in Oklahoma that month.
J P Morgan stated he opposed tax dodging and tax evasion and that his remarks on taxation after returning from Europe were misunderstood. Congressional leaders anticipate an investigating committee will reveal wealthy individuals accused by President Roosevelt of tax evasion and allow them to defend themselves. Chairman Harrison plans to push Senate approval of changes to a House resolution ordering the probe.
Manila June 9. Philippine constabulary moved to aid eight soldiers besieging Kilinga Boli a crazed headhunter said to have killed 13 people in two weeks with a large band of armed followers. Four detachments entered the wilds toward a cave near Nagan where the slayer and followers are bottled up.
About 300 cattle raisers from Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri and Kansas completed an annual inspection tour. Ada men met the group at the Harper-Turner ranch in Murray county. They viewed 300 to 400 registered cattle and had lunch there. A Buxton ranch visit was canceled due to rains. the tour ended at Harvey ranch with more fine cattle.
War Commissar Klementi Voroshilov announced five new commanders across key zones in a drastic shake up. Four officers were not given future assignments. Pravda labeled the death of Vice Defense Commissar Jan Gamarak as proof he was a Trotskyist.
Haile Selassie, ex-emperor of Ethiopia, filed a suit in Paris against Benito Mussolini and Italy. Through attorney Paul Weill he seeks to establish his right to sell stock held in the Ethiopian government’s name in the Addis Ababa Djibouti railway controlled by a French company.
Berlin reports the Schutz Staffels Schwarze Korps urged Pope Pius XII to visit Germany and witness the breach between the Catholic Church and the Nazi government. The article notes a press demand for Germans to choose between Hitler and the Vatican as the conflict intensifies.
A Fort Smith Arkansas storm early today killed Dan Bianchi a 30 year old lineman with Greenwood Telephone Company as he tried to remove a live wire from a telephone line. Roofing blew from buildings at a mining and smelting plant and boiler room damage was noted. Insurance estimated property damage near ten thousand dollars. A tornado hit Declatur Benton county with widespread destruction but no injuries reported. An insurance agent valued overall property losses at thirty five thousand dollars. The note on atom smashing jokes and lamb production figures appear unrelated.
A miniature tornado east of Enid damaged the municipal airport administration building porch and roof, toppled trees, and damaged outbuildings roofs. A power line outage left Breckinridge and Fairmont without lights through the night. Garber reports wind and hail damage to wheat.
Albert McCray was taken to the state penitentiary at McAlester on Wednesday to begin a two year term for burglary in the second degree.
Reports of tornadoes in Konawa Shawnee and other cities were found inaccurate after late Wednesday night checks. Shawnee News Star noted heavy rain hail and high winds with no tornadoes or injuries. Seminole Reporter confirmed downed wires damaged homes and a roof in Maud at 7 30 PM with no injuries. Wewoka saw heavy rain and high wind but no serious damage. No damage reported at Konawa Holdenville or Wetumka.
A tornado damaged several buildings near Cushing and Maud with critical injuries to Mrs. L Patterson and Eldon Archer. A second tornado struck near Union City causing minor injuries to Mrs. Robert Moore and Charley Greason. Torrential rain and large hail accompanied the storm as an army blimp at Oklahoma City airport was damaged by hail.
The Oklahoma Supreme Court opened with the state board of medical examiners seeking to block District Judge W P Keen of Beckham county from hearing a charge of unprofessional conduct against Dr M Shadid of Elk City. The board asked for original jurisdiction and to restrain Keen from further action.
Unofficial returns from Georgia show the repeal of the 22 year old prohibition law defeated by 8 277 votes. The repeal was 94 652 for and 102 920 against.
