County pupils learn 3-Rs in sweltering July classes
In three counties Galey Yeager and Lula schools opened in 100 degree heat to teach reading writing and arithmetic under the split term system. Yeager has 16 pupils with Mrs Alpha Tilley as teacher while Galey enrolls 53 with M R Tucker and Mrs Mary Turner teaching. Lula is the county high school with a larger enrollment. Classes started in mid July for Lula and Yeager on July 12 with Galev beginning last Monday. The schools plan six to eight weeks on then a similar break, resuming around November 1. Norman Mitchell the county superintendent notes enrollment looks steady and may rise in September.

Roff Woman Slain In Family Home Shooting
A Wednesday morning shooting at the Parish home east of Roff left Mrs. Winford Parish dead after a quarrel with her husband who was wounded in the abdomen. Both in their mid sixties, they used two .38 revolvers. one fired twice and the other once. He drove to Ada for treatment. she died en route to Valley View hospital. Sheriff Ray Goodwin and County Attorney Barney Ward investigate.
