Oren Phillips Wins In Close Sheriff Race

Oren Phillips defeated Burl Griffin by 13 votes in the Pontotoc County sheriff runoff, 2,951 to 2,938, in a race noted as one of the closest in county history. Griffin may seek a recount before Thursday noon. Lula precinct pushed Phillips ahead by 13 votes with 35 for Phillips and 8 for Griffin.
