Sulphur Center to Draw Students Across Oklahoma
W L Knickmeyer reports the Sulphur Training Center near Sulphur reopens under new management as the Southern Oklahoma Rural Skills Center. A 25 member staff will run eight programs including welding, clerical work, machinists, cooks, auto tuneup, sewing, small engine repair, tractor maintenance and water pollution control. Trainees from across Oklahoma except Tulsa and Oklahoma City will be referred by the Employment Security Commission and may receive subsistence during training. The eight hour days will be tailored to each student with no set term, aiming to reach an employable entry level, with basic academics if needed, and a dual training plan to gauge aptitudes and personal issues.
