Hearing set on gasoline distribution as public utility Oklahoma City
Oklahoma City AP Charles Nesbitt said the State Corporation Commission will hold a September hearing on making gasoline distribution a public utility. Doyle Downing of Locust Grove accused Phillips Petroleum Co and a distributor of price and supply discrimination in May and June. Downing seeks to invoke a 1907 law to regulate pricing and access. The commission notified refiners and distributors of the hearings, flagging a possible new dispute with the industry. Downing alleges Phillips refused direct sales, routing fuel through J F Steabs & Sons with alleged exclusive rights in his area, and reports a 60 percent May reduction and a 35 percent cut in June from the prior year.
