Field Day Affair Honors Solomon at Ada Barbecue

Last Thursday the Pontotoc County Soil and Water Conservation District sponsored a field day and barbecue to honor Leonard Solomon, a Vanessa native and executive director of the Oklahoma Soil and Water Conservation Commission. The event began at the Ada Livestock Auction with an address by Gov. David Hall. The group then visited area watershed and conservation sites.

Federal and state animal health officials confirm a screw worm case on a farm near Hooks in Bowie County Texas, four and a half miles north of the county line with Oklahoma. Samples from a newborn calf’s navel tested positive, prompting authorities to urge vigilance and report any suspected cases to local agents.

New 4H Photo Fun Club Forming in Pontotoc County

A new 4H Photo Fun Club opens Saturday for 9 to 12 year olds in Pontotoc County. Nolan Rulers says enrollment materials are available from the OSU Extension Center. The club features three series of six episodes teaching basic camera use and storytelling with photos, to air on KWIV Channel 9 in Oklahoma City starting July 10. Enrollment by postcard or mail provides a membership card and club manual, with weekly meetings to follow.

County youth named to Angus Club

Gary W. LeCrane a 15 year old from Store walls has been granted a junior membership in the American Angus Association at St Joseph Missouri announced Lloyd Dry Miller exclusive secretary This junior status allows registered purebred Angus at regular rates and privileges until age 21 Junior members may convert to life time membership in the association There were 142 youths in the United States receiving junior memberships last month.

Oklahoma deer restoration boosts state hunting prospects
