Mrs. O. O. Hammonds, confidential secretary to Henry S. Johnston, was discharged amid rumors of political strife as the governor faced suspension. A close administration source cited Johnston telling her to leave, while Johnston and health chief Dr. Hammonds denied any confirmation.
Oklahoma City January 29 three more impeachment charges against Henry S Johnston suspended governor were voted out by the house committee in executive session bringing the total to 13. Eight of the original ten charges have been adopted and sent to the senate as a court of impeachment convened.
Roy Cheek testified under immunity that he received a fish and game job from Warden Ray O Weems to withdraw from a state senate primary race. Probes also covered T J Eldridge and Clark Mandigo on political activity and highway contracts amid a broader bill on civil service appointments.
Pioneer businessman William J Coffman died at 3 45 am at his Ada home from heart failure after a period of illness He was 53 years 10 months He leaves wife Ethel Wood Coffman and four children Browall J M Rennie Mae and Billie The funeral is planned for Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with Rev R E McCain in charge Coffman was a longtime hardware merchant and a beloved civic figure in Ada Oklahoma area.

Budget officer Ben Harrison proposes a new classroom building costing about 140000 to the Twelfth legislature in a bill introduced last week. Dr A Linscheid president says the recommendation follows a study of local needs and adds to the maintenance and repair fund for the next two years.
Henry Allen Blackburn 68 died Sunday morning in a local hospital. Funeral held 2 PM at Church of Christ with Rev. D N Shipman presiding. Interment in Rosedale cemetery. A Pontotoc county pioneer who lived east of Pecan Grove since before statehood, survived by his widow three sons and five daughters.
Acting Governor W. J. Holloway announced that he signed House Joint Resolution No. 1 extending the due date for the first half of 1928 ad valorem taxes to March 1, 1929. The bill became law with his signature.
Paul Locke a 19 year old former Barlesville high school boy and golf caddy confessed to killing Forrester Bennett 20 in a Saturday night holdup. He already pleaded guilty in justice court and expected to repeat the plea in district court. He also confessed to robbing Paul Buxton a bank teller and a woman companion on January 12 taking 22 dollars and a gold watch. Bennett had planned to enter Oklahoma A and M College at Stillwater. funeral services were held for Bennett at the First Presbyterian church with hundreds of students attending.
United States crude output reached 2,667,056 barrels per day, a new high driven by gains in Santa Fe Springs California and heavy oil. Oklahoma and West Texas show modest increases while Gulf Coast and Mid-Continent regions contribute. Mexicans Gilbert Perez and Francisco Vallis jailed in Pontotoc County on narcotics possession charges.
Ada McClain county sheriff Fred Bowles brought back Fred Nave from Buffalo New York after a cross country transfer. Nave faces requisition papers in Oklahoma and Texas over bank robberies and a murder. Bowles says Nave was well behaved during the trip and that authorities may act quickly to place him in custody.
Luther Hall the largest dormitory at Baylor College for Women in Belton Texas burned early today. No casualties were reported as 250 students evacuated in three minutes. Loss estimated at 150000 dollars, not insured. Students to be housed in other campus buildings.
H E Sullivan testified before a house committee that Mrs Hammonds called Johnston incompetent and that Armstrong urged a pardon for Dewey Crossthwaite. The pardon was cited in one of ten impeachment charges. Johnston allegedly told Sullivan to shoulder responsibility for issuing the pardon as Hammonds cried.
Fire of undetermined origin last night burned the Roff post office, destroying its contents except items in the safe. The blaze, seen by the postmaster at 2 am, damaged Col. James library and disrupted mail handling for a time. Firefighters contained the flames, preventing wider losses. local department stood ready to assist if needed. Col. James, Confederate veteran and former A M College of Texas president, held a notable rare book collection.
Drilling operations are set to begin soon after February 1 near Stonewall in Coal county Oklahoma. The site at 6-2-8, 330 feet from Pontotoc county line, sits 18 miles southeast of Ada and is 12 miles south of the Allen field. E. F. Ewing leads operations for Josh Codsen Company Inc. The acreage belongs to F. T. Hepburn of New York. If productive, a 4000 foot depth is possible and the rig will be completed within a day or two.
AS R L Seaman former secretary to the state highway commission testified before a house investigating committee that Mrs O O Hammonds confidential secretary to Governor Henry S Johnston ordered him to tell road contract bidders to bond with a firm linked to her uncle. He refused saying the demand would be wrongdoing and noted the incident occurred the day after he was employed.
