Allen 4 H crafts class led by Mrs. Claudia Murphey uses recycled materials to create centerpieces piggy banks and wastepaper baskets. The program funds supplies through sales and grows from 26 students benefiting Allen Grade School during education week.
Two Byng High School pupils were seriously hurt in a Saturday night auto wreck near Francis. Terry Matlock 17 and Sue Harned 16 suffered severe injuries including fractures and exposure. The car overturned twice and rested against a tree, discovered hours later as cold temperatures fell.
In Sunshine Community near the Horseshoe Ranch, 10-year-old Larry Heard, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Heard, advances in 4-H livestock work. He shows Elsa Gainer II, an Angus heifer, which won county fair first and state fair second, with a May calving anticipated. He also owns Adang Black II and manages a dairy and sheep efforts while planning a future as an Angus breeder.
W L Knickmeyer notes Larry Heard entered the registered Angus business in 1954 and, within nine years, built a herd expected to gain wider recognition among breeders. The piece highlights Heard’s rapid rise and growing influence in the Angus community.
Fort Worth show officials report two polled Herefords from Adans Enter Herefords of Ada will compete in the 1963 Fort Worth Stock Show January 25 to February 3. The event draws about 10,000 head of livestock, with 12 cattle breeds, 10 sheep breeds, eight swine breeds, plus a vast horse division and a new Appaloosa sale. Minnie Pearl will headline rodeo events alongside top acts and numerous cowboys.
Foundation trustees met to discuss the Kerr Memorial project nine months after Senator Robert S. Kerr’s death. Plans include a 430 acre research park with educational facilities and recreation areas near Ada, Oklahoma, plus a pipeline and highway project grant totaling 380000 dollars. The board voted to expand to 14 members and seek regional leaders as new trustees.
The WEEKLY adds two new correspondents Miss May Johnson from Hart and Mrs Sue Howry from Fittstown. Johnson is a Hart resident and promising newcomer while Howry has lived in Fittstown three and a half years with husband Dave Howry employed at Dad Patterson Feed Co.
