The Ada Fire Department reports 7 months of data showing 282 alarms and 164000 dollars in fire losses. Major causes include heating and cooking equipment, faulty electrical systems, and 33 fires from stoves and grease. Rural alarms numbered 129 with seven fire deaths since January 1968, most due to careless smoking in residential areas.
Ada Rancher's bull ranks third high in Noble test results for 74 bulls evaluated Dec 17 at Noble Foundation Ardmore. Test average daily gain 3.02 lb. 33 bulls over average, 15 above 4 lb. Leaders include 1410 lb Santa Gertrudis owned by Burrell Ranch Whitesboro Tex and 1150 lb Charolais owned by Paul Johnson Mill Creek Glen Ferris Ada.
FBI ruled out federal involvement in the Muskogee fire that destroyed a music floral owned by a city councilman. Police Chief Kennedy said the investigation will continue with local, state officers, and Tulsa volunteers joining a unified probe. Damage is estimated between eighty thousand and two hundred thousand dollars.
City firefighters answered two non fire calls on Wednesday at 7:23 p.m. A car backed over a gas meter at 18 N Broadway and firefighters stood by until a repair crew arrived. Later at 7:23 p.m. a person knocked over a slave at the residence of Mrs James Lewis, 719 BE Jalk, though no fire occurred as firefighters cut off the gas.
Jack E. Stark, superintendent of Platt National Park and Arbuckle Recreation Area for three and a half years, will become assistant superintendent at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. John C. Higgins will succeed Stark, coming from Homestead National Monument in Nebraska.
Sen Harris announced a hearing in Ada at 9 30 a m in the Aldridge Building community room to hear from elderly residents and advocates on Social Security health care and related elder programs. Witnesses include Pansy Price Lloyd Roach Rev Charles Hill Dale Kirk Neal Clark Jess Teague Mars Paralee Hise and others with invited officials George Miller and Lonnie Abbott. The session is part of a Oklahoma tour by the Finance Committee to bring federal matters to local people.
A Durant man sustained minor injuries in a two truck collision on the Lake Creek bridge southeast of the city near noon Wednesday. Charles Julius Lewis, driving a Best Truck, was treated at Valley View Hospital and released. He was traveling south on SH 399 when he met a slabbed Hemi‑trailer hauling a bulldozer. The semi driver was James A. Ivanhoe of Oklahoma City.
William B. Buxton of Ada has been named administrative assistant by Gov elect David Hall. Buxton will liaison with officials and state agencies including the crime commission. He earned his law degree at the University of Tulsa and has worked with Hall since.
The Adythwesl section of the Ada bypass will be widened from two to four lanes by 1973. The Oklahoma Highway Commission approved the parallel-lane addition at its regular meeting on Monday following a State Highway Department recommendation. Ada commissioner J A Richardson noted the project is planned about four years ahead for anticipated 1973 traffic. Estimated grading drainage and surfacing cost stands at 400000 dollars.
The City of Ada advertises bids for leasing pasture land near the airport. Bids are due by 7:30 p.m. on a date in September with opening at the city council meeting. The former lease was held by Dr. E. Cowling who died late in September. the lease covers grazing livestock and hay production per terms in the lease on file.
