Gray skies and persistent cold grip the area with light snow flurries. Temperatures eased to near 13 degrees Tuesday with a forecast for warmer conditions by Friday as officials urged caution on slick streets and sidewalks.
A fragmented forecast describes freezing temperatures and widespread damage from California to the Dixie border. Indio reports 23 F and downtown Los Angeles 7 F while Deserts show 16 to 31 F. Midwest towns face flooding, blocked highways, and prolonged Arctic cold as forecasts warn of more snow and wind.
A two car collision near Stroud Oklahoma early today left one person seriously injured and another dead. The crash occurred in an icy curve four miles east of town as vehicles headed toward nearby areas. Local authorities are reviewing witness statements as part of the investigation.
Cold snap lingers with ice on roads as temperatures hover above zero in some areas. State highway crews report passable but hazardous conditions across hills curves and bridges. Creeks at bankfull levels amid wet spell, but no highway deaths reported yet.

At the Sard annual convention Arthur A. Sith of Sterling Colorado warned that the nation's cattle population may top government projections by 1958 due to population growth and meat demand. He noted hog numbers rose about 1.21 percent last year to around 3,000,003 head, while cattle increased by about 1,000,008 to 79,590,000. He questioned the 1954-58 projection and urged forage and irrigation improvements to support a larger herd.
A severe sleet storm paralyzed Eaet Central, causing treacherous roadways and multiple wrecks. Dr Spencer Jimong Weather’s Vices notes a sharp drop in visibility and slick conditions as vehicles slide off I-4 and the Begeway, delaying officials and prompting county authorities to declare activity near a major fuel depot unsafe. The state fire marshal reports damage and road closures as crews work to clear debris and restore travel, with 73 counties affected and ongoing efforts to assess structural safety.
Mobile x ray units began operating Wednesday afternoon with Ada downtown unit opening late and no report from Allen. Officials met volunteers to plan a county wide survey drive before one unit departs. Turnout in Ada surprised due to bad weather. X rays will reveal health issues beyond tuberculosis and service is free.
News recounts a sled accident involving 11 year old Packard Wallach after a collision on a northern descent. Richard Warred was injured with large leg lacerations but no fractures. Wallach was hospitalized and treated, while peers and neighbors expressed sympathy amid the scene’s pathos.
OKLAHOMA CITY Jan 3 ic y roads forced final cancellation Turner to cancel appearances at Seminole and Ada today on behalf of the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. The trip was cancelled because the governor could not drive fast enough to maintain his schedule. Turner, suffering from a card, remained at the executive mansion instead of coming to the theater.
George Allen Pitt born 1855, counted his 95th New Year in 1950. He came to Oklahoma in 1899 and Fontotec county in 185 while Odshoma was Indian Territory. He married Mary Jane Trauber in 1875 and moved to Texas in 1885. The Pitt family lived near Sulphur, then Sunshine in Fontotec. five children survived, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gold wedding anniversary noted. Mrs Pitt died 1938.
A meeting this week in Pontotoc County endorsed reactivating the Junior Red Cross program, with Ben Morrison and other educators involved. Zelma Burks, RC representative, outlined activities aligning with school curriculum, linking to broader educational growth and service. The American Junior Red Cross serves as the junior arm of the organization in schools. In Oklahoma City on January 5, 03, bids were opened for 1,237 acres of school land in Guymen, raised at 31,100 dollars, including land near OK A&M College Goodwell, requested for auction by the land commission.
A nationwide strike plan by the CIO Communications Workers of America targets Bell system wage hikes shorter apprentice periods and a 35 hour work week. About 130 000 workers could strike immediately with another 150 000 ready by February end. Bell officials say wage rises must be paid by users and that workers are well paid.
Senators Gillette and Wiley push to repeal the federal oleomarverine tax affecting interstate commerce. The House and Senate battle over the measure as supporters urge removal of the tax to aid manufacturers and wholesalers.
