Oklahoma Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts Meet
The 32nd annual Oklahoma Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts meeting is set for January 5 and 6 at the Mayo Hotel in Tulsa. District supervisors from across the state will attend to discuss improving district effectiveness with rural and urban communities. Judge Lavern Fishel will deliver the keynote on The Change and the Challenge in Conservation. Bill Cason will address roadside erosion on rural roads and Kenneth Grant of the Soil Conservation Service will speak at the Tuesday lunch. The Conservation Awards Program will be held January 5 at 3:30 p.m. Attendees from Pontotoc County include B. M. Stephens, Walter Woolley Jr., Dr. Harvey Price, Virginia Noe, and Kenneth Yoakum.

Dr. Herbert L. Ley Jr, former FDA commissioner, says he faced tremendous pressure from the drug industry during his three years in office. About 300 drugs were removed from the market for inefficacy. He claims the administration offered no support as industry reps pressed him for six hours on some days.

Bulls Show Gains In Test Program At Noble Station
84 bulls undergo an 84 day growth test at the Noble Foundation Ardmore starting Sept. 2 with Dec. 23 weights. Average daily gain tops 4.00 lbs for fourteen bulls across Red Angus Hereford Angus Charolais Charolais cross and Santa Gertrudis. Leaders include Paula Johnson Charolais 5.00 ADG and Geneva Corbin Angis-Charolais-Hereford 4.94 ADG with others at 4.46 4.35 4.23 and 4.11 ADG. Overall test average is 3.51 lbs and 952 lb final weights with 658 lb starting.

Hardin to Outline 1970 Meat Imports Plan in Year Start
Agriculture Secretary Clifford M. Hardin will announce the 1970 total for quota type meats. The move follows a formula based on U.S. production with a base allocation and trigger point adjusted annually to reflect production gains. Officials expect a small increase next year with emphasis on big exporters Australia and New Zealand.
