A deadly shooting occurred at a dance in Knox leaving Mel Lon Harrison dead at the scene. Police reported the incident as a violent fatality with no immediate suspect information available.
Mrs Mae Harrison was killed at a neighborhood dance near Knox. Matt Lancaster Crockett Daggs and Jim Rogers were arrested in Ada and Center and jailed to await the grand jury. The 38 caliber gun fired five shots, one hitting Mrs Harrison. investigators seek motive amid Ada town tensions.
In Mexico City on February 18 a coup d etat toppled President Madero. General Blanquet led the assault, arresting Madero in his rooms after a prior agreement with Huerta. Tens of thousands backed the move as troops moved to the palace and a civil crisis unfolded.
Mr Frank Buttram of Ada a 1911 Oklahoma graduate issues bulletin for the State Geological Survey on Glass Sands of Oklahoma. He reports inexhaustible deposits with better quality than other states and says Kansas and Oklahoma plants can be supplied cheaply due to favorable location and freight savings.
Washington reports 2000 more marines to be sent to Vera Cruz or nearby, with ships Georgia Nebraska and Vermont ready. The move follows cabinet discussions and Taft's reply to Madero denying intervention, sent as the administration maintains non intervention amid rising tensions at the Mexican border.

Oklahoma City report says state auditor Leo Meyer submitted an unconditional resignation to Governor Cruce as impeachment proceedings closed in. No replacement named. rumors link Ben Riley and J. C. McClelland to possible appointment. Meyer cited false accusations and desire to focus on family. House adjourned session to review articles of impeachment as trial loomed.
St Louis February 17 B L Winchell president of the Frisco lines returns from a two week tour of Oklahoma Texas and Louisiana stating every condition is favorable for a big crop this year. He notes ample ground water and wheat looking good in Oklahoma and Texas with Vice President W C Nixon endorsing the optimism. The Frisco officials toured major cities gathering agricultural reports and expect a prosperous south despite federal politics.
Report in the News notes the First State Bank of Vanoss is healthy and gaining strength with deposits above 17000 for the season. In Quinton Oklahoma on February 17 H M Butler sells the Times Register to J W Sargent of Maysville assisted by his son plans improvements. Butler returns to Pryor Creek to publish a weekly with his son’s daily.
Morris Oklahoma February reports a gas well on the Hoff property seven miles north of Morris in the Northwest Morris pool. Estimated capacity 56 million feet, with a roar audible seven miles away. The derrick top blew off as the well struck and is being demolished. several crew members injured trying to recover tools amid gas pressure and flying rocks.
Democratic Press Bulletin weighs Robert L. Williams as a potential governor candidate. Williams, longtime supreme court justice and first chief justice, helped draft the state constitution and served on key committees. Durant-born judge could shift from judiciary to executive, with salary not the primary factor.
Francisco I Madero is ousted from the presidency after being seized by Gen Blanquet at the National Palace. Gen Huerta proclaims provisional president as chaos erupts with battles, arrests of cabinet members, and Madero signing his resignation by midnight.
Manager Wingo says the Choctaw Oil mill at Ada will likely close in late March or early April after a successful season. The facility has been a major employer in the area. Joe Foster visited from Stonewall and returned home.
Oklahoma City February 18. The Oklahoma House spent a long session debating the Hunter Taylor bill to abolish the state fish and game department and overhaul the laws. It passed to final roll call with heavy amendments including a two year closed season for quail and exemptions for many eastern counties. Prohibition of Sunday fishing sparked earlier debate.
The Farmers State Bank of Fitzhugh shows over $20,000 in deposits and abundant resources. The statement notes money matters in the neighborhood are moderately easy between seasons and attributes the bank's prosperity to good management.
