Now in its seventh year the Byng auto mechanics program trains about 34 students annually with roughly 10 graduates each year. Vernon Stokes, longtime instructor, notes apprentices learn every repair phase from engines to transmissions and assign daily shop duties, with several graduates entering auto repair, motor pools in the armed services, or college to fund their study. The program operates in a new building with an adequately equipped shop and supports students from sophomore through senior years.
