Residents of Pocantico Hills near Tarrytown believe John D. Rockefeller may be onsite after a prized cheese from New York City is shipped daily to his estate. The cheese, elusive yet loud in presence, signals the mogul’s possible location to onlookers.
Oklahoma Central Railway laid its first steel at Lehigh on Saturday with a silver spike driven by Boone Williams of the Lehigh Commercial club. President Dorset Carter Chief Engineer McWillie and Superintendent W J Terry attended and Master Mechanic W T Dickinson operated the construction engine. The line has thirty miles graded ready for steel and will proceed toward Chickasha, with work on the Paris Texas extension to start within sixty days.
A six story store and factory at 836 838 Broadway in New York City suffered a large blaze yesterday. Property valued at over a quarter of a million dollars was destroyed as upper floors burned out and collapsed. Several firemen were injured, one seriously, after being trapped by packed boxes as floors gave way and the lower sections flooded. Rescue crews freed them to safety.
Washington February 14 The Indian Affairs Committee debated the Curtis bill in revised form but made little progress. Key dispute centers on coal lands disposal and interior secretary powers with Wyoming secretary Clark proposing presidential authority to sell. Eight members present, committee evenly divided, decision deferred until today with aim to report to the Senate Friday.
Mr Joe Lawrence leased 100 acres near Oolite to a mineral prospector for lead rights. The old rock crusher site marks the claim area and reports say lead has been found in encouraging quantities in the vicinity.
In the mayor's court this morning a small grind of Sunday violations was tried. Two men named Guy Southern and Lamar were tried on a charge of adultery and each fined one dollar with trimmings. Recorder Warren acted as mayor pro tem due to the mayor's illness.
President Roosevelt urged Americans to donate to the American Red Cross for famine relief in Northern Japan. The appeal, publicized by Secretary Loeb, directs funds to the Japanese Red Cross as guided by the Japanese government. Contributions may be sent to local Red Cross treasurers or to Charles Hallam Keep at the U.S. Treasury in Washington.
Senator R N Stafford filed the charter of the Farmers Educational and Co operative Union of America in Texas on February 14. Founders include O P Pyle C S Barrett Newt Gresham I N McCallister J H Reynolds W S Miller E J Cook Campbell Russell. Charter location to be decided at a March meeting.
Lawton Oklahoma February 14 Chief Quanah Parker of the Comanche Nation protests Congress plans to open 500000 acres of Kiowa Comanche land to settlement He meets Indian Agent J P Blackburn in Lawton and vows to press Washington to block the Stephens bill He says the lands are vital for tribal revenue subsistence and votes on the proposal.
Despite heavy rain about forty members attend as President Chambless opens the Ada Commercial Club meeting. A broom factory proposal promises 30 to 40 skilled jobs and a $400 weekly payroll, contingent on a $1,000 bonus and a suitable site of 200 by 140 feet. committees are set to solicit funds, advertise Ada abroad, and arrange entertainment for a city mass meeting.
The Washington special says President and Mrs. Roosevelt hosted a gala White House dinner in honor of Miss Roosevelt turning 22. Attending were young married couples and maids, with pink roses and white hyacinths adorning the state dining room. Longworth attended Congress after a call from his fiancée who hurried to his home before sunrise.

Atoka Republican Club hosts Lincoln Day banquet with speeches by C A Raymond R E Campbell W C Foster Frank Lee and T C Humphrey. Musical program features Mrs McClendin singing The Star Spangled Banner. Court house decorated with flags and flowers.
