Vanoss seniors race to raise about $3,000 for a seven day trip to Washington D C. They’ve sold yearbook ads and held fundraisers including car washes a minstrel show and a “bad habits” jar collection. The plan includes a five day Washington visit with White House Capitol Arlington Cemetery and more.

George E. Gurley, managing editor of the Ada Evening News, was named first place in a nationwide editorial contest sponsored by the American Trucking Association. He will receive a plaque and 500 dollars. Gurley wrote the award winning editorial for the December 12 ADA Weekly News.

Deadline Nears For Oklahoma Big Tree Contest

From Hay Barn to Nine Room Ranch Home in Conway
The old Conway WPA school building eight miles east of Ada is converted into a two story nine room ranch. Walter J. Mayer Jr and family live there as work continues. Interior removal left only roof and walls and required lowering floors to create space for a second story. The project, begun in June, repurposed the structure once used for hay storage after the 1947 annexation by Byng.

Safety program sweeps through Pontotoc County 4 H clubs
The Pontotoc County 4 H Federation runs a countywide safety drive with Vaness, Union Hill, Byng and Fitzhugh clubs participating. About 2 000 leaflets, 300 car checks, school assemblies, safety talks, posters and slogans, and a bicycle safety radio feature highlight the effort. Gary Golden earns top poster honors and a slogan award.
