Washington January 29 The resignation of Col William Mitchell from the air service has been accepted and will take effect February 1 ending a five year suspension following his court martial for criticizing government aviation policies. The War Department statement says the resignation is unconditional and effective February 1 1926. Mitchell declined further comment awaiting removal from active duty next Monday.

Young man remains unconscious after downtown crash
Obra Roberts 22 is in Breco hospital in a semi conscious state after being struck by car driven by R A Rubrecht on Main Street at 7 30 last night. Roberts suffered a skull penetrating gash and severe facial injuries while Earnest Summers was only bruised. Rubrecht swerved to avoid Summers and assisted in taking Roberts to hospital.

Oklahoma City February 3 John Baker is jailed on assault and battery arson charges. Pastor Rev J C Collins is nursing a chewed leg after Baker allegedly bit him during an attempted church arson. Gov Miriam A Ferguson and her husband James E Ferguson filed a $100000 libel suit in Belton Texas district court naming Atticus Webb of Dallas state superintendent of the Anti Saloon League and the American Publishing Co of Austin as defendants. The petition says the Austin American Statesman published an interview last December attributed to Webb that criticized the prohibition enforcement policy and reflected on the plaintiffs character and reputation.

He is jailed on default bond after being brought from Granite by Sheriff Walker. Ed Harris a Black man pleaded guilty to attacking Mrs. Clarence Bryant in Lexington Kentucky on January 19 and was sentenced to be hanged March 5 in the Fayette county jail yard. The Washington school during the last two weeks of January served 1282 lunches under domestic science supervision led by Miss Catherine Smith. Of these 1075 were paid for at 10 to 15 cents each. 207 students received meals free. Groceries totaled $55.98 with an added $1.45 making $57.43 overall, about 4 1/2 cents per meal. The menu was simple yet nourishing and appetizing.

Kenauamer Rules on SLT Machines in Oklahoma
In Tulsa on January 28 Federal Judge Kennamer ruled that the s1060th machines in the northern district of Oklahoma are gambling devices under state law and may be confiscated. George W. Mills of Denver challenged state, county, and city authorities over 150 machines, seeking to label them non gambling. The judge rejected the petition, noting similar machines exist elsewhere, and Mills’ appeal follows prior Pontotoc county action.

Oklahoma City February 2 twenty highway contracts were awarded by the state highway commission totaling about 573 000. Six projects wait awards and two or three may be awarded this afternoon.
