Ada mayor C O Barton claims gambling and vice have thrived in Ada, listing alleged houses and operators, criticizing peace officers and officials, while urging evidence be provided to convict guilty parties. He offers $25 for information through Frank Jones at Ada National Bank.
In Goldfield Nevada on December 23, mining interests press to President over troops. Debates focus on deportation evidence by Western Federation of Miners and possible deployment of deputies and ranger aid to preserve order after troop withdrawal. Local officers seek 50 new deputies as plans hinge on legislative action.
The passage questions whether a local concern could earn over twenty thousand dollars annually, nearly double its assessed valuation. It asks if the public should accept such profits and praises the constitution and civic virtue of the city administration in defending the situation.
A Sulphur post office safe was blown open Wednesday night and robbers escaped. Sheriff Sapith was notified to monitor for suspects. Early indications suggest suspects may be fleeing on or near railroad lines.
Clark Gerron a Denton youth was struck by a locomotive on the Fourth street trestle at 10 o'clock. His companion Bruce Redmond escaped unharmed. Gerron was taken to the Medical College Hospital with back injuries from a fifteen foot fall. doctors said injuries were not serious.
The Ada News launches a four month subscription contest from December to March to expand circulation. Prizes include a $300 upright piano, a $3000 dwelling lot in Sunrise Addition Ada Ohio, other real estate in area towns, a $100 standard typewriter and a $90 life scholarship at Hill's business college. Votes: one dollar yields 100 votes for a designated contestant in weekly and daily editions with different vote values.
William Jennings Bryan addressed the Oklahoma legislature in a joint session in Guthrie on December 21. He spoke nonpartisan about lawmaking, praised Oklahoma Democrats, and commented on the constitutional convention election and the state constitution as a model for future organic laws.
Berlin December 22 Thirteen Christmas trees in the Potsdam palace honor the imperial family. The emperor and empress receive the two largest trees with gifts for six sons and daughters and in laws. The emperor plans a park walk and present distribution to the poor, followed by a family gathering and exchanges of gifts within the shell room. The crown prince and Prince Eitel also distribute gifts in their Potsdam households.
Fort Worth Texas December 23 E A Pat Paffrath receives a letter from Amarillo describing a snowstorm that covered the ground twelve to fourteen inches without counting drifts and promising immense benefits to wheat growers. A major homeseekers excursion reached Amarillo but was halted by the wintry weather.
Prof and Mrs T F Pierce left Ref Eagle for Ada with plans to move to the county seat around the 1st. A series of fires unsettled Reff as Nichols hotel and Mrs Brown’s East Main residence were saved by department efforts and a bucket brigade. Mrs W M McCurdy remains very ill with pneumonia but shows slow improvement.
Panama December 22 The board of survey reports that in the last two months 1,500,000 worth of property has been condemned as unfit for further use and most of it was ordered burned, illustrating the high cost of the canal project.
