Congress ends a short session with three bills pending before the president. The housing bill passes the Senate with four dissenting votes, while tax revision awaits conference.
The status report shows several items: AR M Passed senate and house sent to conference committee. WAGE-HOUR House sent back to labor committee described as tantamount to killing the bill. GOVERNMENT REORGANIZATION awaiting senate action. REGIONAL PLANNING still under study. ANTI-TRUST no legislation introduced. HOUSING passed both chambers and sent to conference committee.
Immunization efforts in Ponotoc County rise as health officials report 23 diphtheria cases since September 1 with five deaths. Dr. McDonald urges parents to vaccinate preschoolers noting high risk for two year olds and explains both one shot and two shot methods are effective.
A. G. Murray pleaded not guilty in justice court to assault with intent to kill after an altercation in front of a Fittston restaurant. Bond set at 5000 dollars. preliminary hearing date not yet set. H. D. Binns of Coalgate suffers severe knife wounds. Clarence Wich is jailed with Murray and awaiting arraignment.

Mrs. Fillman gave the devotional with participants Mrs. Dotson Mrs. Lowell Mrs. Lowrey Mrs. Berry and others present including Mrs. Perrin Mrs. Matthews Mrs. Yeargen Mrs. Bigham Mrs. Hopper Mrs. Clary Mrs. Schenki Mrs. Hicks and Miss Alta Lee. The Baptist church of Fittstown plans a program and Christmas tree for Friday night.

Frank B. Kellogg former secretary of state and world court judge died after cerebral thrombosis followed by bronchial pneumonia on the eve of his 71st birthday. He served as U S senator ambassador to Britain and helped author the peace pact for which he won the 1929 Nobel Prize. Funeral set for Thursday in St John the Evangelist church with burial in Washington National Cathedral.
J L Nunnally of Frisco admitted Wednesday he drove the car that struck 10 year old Norman Bray as he rode across Broadway and Fourteenth street Tuesday evening. Officers traced him by tag number. Bray suffered a fractured pelvis and a hip gash but was not in danger.
Senator Allen G Nichols reports state highway department approval for a WPA linked project to crush limestone and prepare the Fittstown to Wapanucka oil mat route. A rock crusher will be built on the mountain south of Fittstown to create a mudless 17 mile gap, weather permitting in spring.
Valencia report says under 500 insurgents endured in Teruel’s cathedral ruins as two loyalist corps push in to seal a government victory. General Miguel Rojo prevented destruction of the 16th century church walls.
Lindon Ogee, a Pontotoc county farmer, was sentenced by District Judge J Knox Byrum to five years in the state penitentiary for manslaughter in the fatal shooting of G M C Kelly, a Maud farmer. The incident followed a August land dispute. a motion for a new trial alleging new evidence was withdrawn by County Attorney Tom Wyatt.
Fire department responded to a loud blaze in the 200 block of East Main when a firecracker stand sparked into a noisy scene. Firefighters used about a gallon of water to end the display amid scattered spectators and minimal damage.
Work on the north border test at Fitts field halted with a dry abandoned report for the No. 1 Scrivner well of J. S. Campbell in the SW SE SW of 15-2-7. The well reached 1 473 feet depth and is near Sinclair Moody leases in 21-2-7 and 5-B Moody of Sinclair in the NW NE NW of the section. Magnolia No. 2 Steed tests Hunton lime at SE NE NE of 35-2-6 while Magnolia plans No. 3 Mayhue at NE SE SE of 20-2-6 and No. 3 A. Reed pipe set at 1161 feet in NE SW NE of 26-5-7. Across the Canadian river, Barabara No. 2 Mount tests above the sand in 35-5-7.
County and city offices will be closed Friday and Saturday for the holidays. Public offices close at 5 this afternoon and reopen Monday. Mayor Bill Crawford says all city offices including water department and clerk's office are affected. County courthouse workers will exchange gifts at a private party today.
Belton Texas December 22. F M Sockwell 62 mayor of Greenville Texas died here from injuries in an automobile crash Monday caused by a rear tire blowout the car overturning twice. T D Starnes former Hunt county judge was seriously hurt and listed dangerous. T S Mitchell driver and C M Adams passenger escaped with minor injuries.
The liner President Hoover, badly damaged after grounding on December 19, lies broadside on a reef off Hashoto Island near Formosa. Salvage survey is underway with U S S Alden and armed guards aboard to protect mails. The President Grant plans to reach the Hoover by December 24. Gatun Lake is noted as the world’s largest artificial lake.
Morrison pleaded not guilty when arraigned in A. W. Oliver court on a petit larceny charge, second offense. A preliminary hearing was set for January 8, bond was $1000, and the coat found at Morrison’s home is valued at $20. Previously, in 1931, Morrison pleaded guilty to larceny and was sentenced to a year at Granite reformatory.
Senator Wagner said conferees will remove Lodge's wage scale clause from the housing bill. He warned the Labor Department would face delays assessing prevailing wages in each community, hindering rapid FHA insured construction. The bill allows a $6000 house with 10 percent down and reduces interest for smaller homes.
