Ada post office faced a full house as crowds poured in to mail Christmas parcels. Long lines formed at the windows and clerks worked at top speed to process gifts and insurance paperwork. Staff shortages from last year’s illness were avoided, and workers expected parcel volume to exceed last year’s totals.
Eight federal indictments accuse Murray Gibbons former Veterans Bureau official and Oklahoma House speaker of irregularities in veterans compensation claims. Co defendant Jack Roberts is named in one case. Gibbons was in Little Rock visiting relatives. warrant to be served on return.
A Japanese steamer Ryujin Maru ran aground near the Whampoa river mouth and was looted by dozens of armed Chinese pirates. They boarded in small boats, forced officers to stay in cabins, and removed cargo and fittings. No injuries or hostages reported. ship remained aground near Canton hours later. In Oklahoma City on December 23 the corporation commission extended until April 1 curtailment of oil production across all Oklahoma flash pools after a brief hearing. All three commissioners signed the order as Ray M. Gollins testified that curtailment would prevent waste. Major oil firms did not protest, and the proration method in the Oklahoma City pool remains optional for operators, with T. B. Slick excluded.
