Interpleader suit over 1866 treaty land allotment
Attorney General P C Knox filed in the Court of Claims a bill of interpleader against the Choc taw and Chickasaw Nations and Chickasaw freedmen to settle who pays for land allotted to freedmen at the Dawes Commission assessed value. If the United States pays, the tribes could gain about $1,000,000 with roughly 6,000 freedmen involved.
