Funeral services are set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Allen Church of God for Pvt. Leon L. Skidmore who died from wounds in Mare Island California after saving fellow Marines by placing a foot on a Japanese grenade. He died Friday from infection after the battle injury. Burial will be in Allen cemetery. Survivors include his parents Charley and wife and siblings Drexal Kenneth Marie Gallihan.
Chinese dispatch says Japanese forces cling to the rail town of Hochih in northwestern Kwangsi, reinforced and mounting stiff resistance as Chinese troops attack.

In a Treviso mission Capt Frederick Michel and Lt James D Dailey wiped out one locomotive damaged 16 more and blew open 20 railway cars.
Cleveland county reports a new producing oil field with the O. G. Harp No. 1 Matthewson located two miles west of the original Moore field. The wildcat well flowed oil and gas within 15 minutes after reaching the Bartlesville sand at depths around 7,568 to 6,607 feet and was shut in after testing.
