Clayton Defends Cotton Firms as Prices Decline
W L Clayton of Anderson Clayton & Company testified before a senate agriculture sub committee that cotton prices fell because supply exceeded demand and due to rapid dumping and stock market slumps. He cited global production rises and shifts in demand, noting 150000 bales replaced in Japan by Indian cotton and that speculators held 4 to 5 million bales of futures.
