Pension plan inequity stirs Congress debate after obscure 1925 act
Washington reports reveal a 1925 government employes compensation act now covers Army and Air Force reservists on active duty in Korea, creating large gaps with veterans benefits. The disparity favors reservists with higher survivor pensions, sparking calls to align payouts and potentially raise costs. Officials warn any change will trigger controversy as lawmakers decide whether to raise regulars’ pay or cut reserve benefits.
