The winter edition of the A Shetland Pony Sale opens in Ada with about 100 registered ponies and 300 grades set to go under the hammer over three days. Visitors from some 20 states attend as 369 stalls are prepared and auctioneers Bill Porter Harold Parker, Bill Tilton and Ray Holder are listed.

Members of the Fittstown Baptist Church observed Lottie Moon prayer week with daily meetings. A hitchhiker, who had been at a welfare office in Ada, was invited in for lunch, given money and reading material, and later treated to a full meal. He left warmed by the generous act.

Three Adans Earn Degrees at McAlester Scottish Rite

Oakman Club Hosts Deer Barbecue Meeting
The Oakman Sportsmen Club held its regular December meeting in the school gym with about 65 attendees. Members and guests shared barbecued deer and chicken, prepared by Jack Johnson of Ada, who also thanked A. N. Zackery for providing the deer. Pontotoc County Plans Peanut Quota Referendum Vote
Pontotoc County ASC announces committees to run the December 15 peanut marketing quota referendum with five polling places in cotton communities. Eligible voters include landlords tenants and sharecroppers producing upland cotton in 1959. If two thirds approve quotas the program continues for three peanut crops. if under one third oppose loans fall to 50 percent parity and no quotas apply. Previous quota approval in 1956 stood at 93.5 percent.

Boomtown Landmark Fades Away on Main Street
One of Fittstown’s earliest landmarks, the Rylander Drug store, was moved last week ending a hub of the boomtown era. Oldtimers recalled a fully stocked Ada store with a pharmacist fountain and school books used by McLish High School and two grade schools. Mrs. Morma Rylander kept it open until ill health ended its run.

Ada Oklahoma stocker calves sold 90 cents to 1 dollar higher than last week with steady to strong other classes. Receipts totaled 1,100 cattle and 150 hogs as buyers moved through various cattle categories, stockers and feeders, hogs, and dairy calves with prices listed for each class.
