Pontotoc county drive leaders express concern as the concentrated part of the Sixth War Loan ends next Saturday and E bonds bought later in the month will be credited to quotas.
Ada hosts two large war bond events this week as the Ada Community Sales barn near the city and the McSwain Theater venue offer major incentives. Prizes include a German rifle and a Guernsey cow and calf, with admission to the theater via bond purchases. Local sales progress lags behind county quotas amid wet weather and postponed auctions.
Bond totals show Series E goal 372000.00 with Friday sales 110256.25 and total to date 202712.50. Other types list Friday sales 12422.50 and total to date 335737.63. Overall bonds total to date 1054000.00 with 938450.13 in remaining progress.
Chinese High Command said Shangssu railway town in Kweichow was recaptured in an 18 mile advance from Tuhsan as part of a broader push to push Japanese forces back toward the Kwansi border. General Chen Cheng signaled preparations for renewed offensives as crisis eases.
Tulsa county oversubscribed its Sixth War Loan quota by more than a million dollars and volunteers pledged to push eastern Oklahoma total toward 50 million to fund the heavy cruiser USS Tulsa. An automobile engine the size of a shoe box but with power comparable to a full auto is predicted for the future.
Total sales in Tulsa county reached 22.605 million against a 21.261 million quota. Missouri foresees snow Sunday in the eastern area with rain in extreme southeast. Kansas forecasts Sunday fair in the west and clearing in the east with continued cold conditions.
Mrs. Anna Denton and Booth Downs, relatives of B. D. Denton owner of Denco Bus and Air Lines, narrowly survived after being overcome by carbon monoxide from a floor furnace at the Ada to Fittstown area farm. Found unconscious, both were hospitalized with Mrs. Denton improving and Downs expected to be released soon.
No greenery or lighting will adorn Ada streets this year due to lack of decorations and labor. Santa Claus arrives for two town rounds with a choir, while Jaycees plan postwar decor. the orphanage party on December 22 will give 47 children presents, courtesy of local merchants.
Thirty six orphans were moved by bus from the west Oklahoma State Home for White Children to Whitaker State Home at Pryor as part of consolidations. Planned next steps include moving boys from Pauls Valley training school to Helena, and establishing the southern Oklahoma hospital at Pauls Valley to serve overflow patients from three state mental hospitals.
County farmers report peanuts as the top money crop with some earning up to 80 dollars per acre based on quality graded by government workers. Peanuts average around 50 dollars per acre with a 30 pound bushel selling up to 2 dollars and 45 cents for top quality. Pecan crops are large but price declines due to a bigger national crop, with native pecans selling around 13 and a half cents per pound.
Several hundred Christmas packages are sent daily and mailers are urged to send now to avoid peak loads. The post office warns that packages mailed early may still miss Christmas delivery but chances are better than waiting. First class greeting cards are advised for faster forwarding.

Rome December 9 British Eighth Army drives toward Faenza in bitter fighting gaining up to five miles beyond the Lamone River. San Prospero on the west bank falls as Allied columns push toward Celle and Highway 9 to Bologna. German counterattacks aim to shield their flank while Allies retake Pideura and press east bank Lamone line.
Oklahoma City Regents discuss a capital program totaling 9,063,325 dollars for higher education, with original requests near 16 million. Plans aim to fund equipment for engineering at Oklahoma A and M College and to submit recommendations to the governor and legislature for the next biennium.

Drafting of men aged 26 to 37 for replacement of troops released to war plants was ordered by War Mobilization Director James F Byrnes to meet a target of 300000 workers for war industries. Byrnes said releases from the army and navy were increasing and the calls will ensure replacements and boost production.
