Baxter Lee Harrell known as Sugar was assigned a 15000 bond ahead of arraignment before U S Commissioner Peter G Fullerton on Mann Act charges. He was seized yesterday at his ranch near Indiahoma and linked to a wide white slave ring. He faces prior Oklahoma City indictment for vice activities spanning Pennsylvania to jail. He was to be transported to Oklahoma City after arraignment.
The Agriculture Department’s final 1943 cotton crop estimate stands at 11,478,000 bales of 500 pounds, up 36,000 from last month. Cottonseed output is 5,116,000 tons, with lint yield 252 pounds per acre, and total area for harvest at 21,874,000 acres across states including Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, and Louisiana.

W D Gowers appeared in person at the county courthouse on Tuesday and entered a not guilty plea. Bond was set at 250 dollars. He was ordered to appear on charges of possessing intoxicating liquor and said Frank Hulsey supplied the liquor cut. Gowers posted the bond.

Rep Charles A Halleck of Indiana was elected chairman of the Republican congressional committee to succeed the late Rep J William Ditter of Pennsylvania. The choice was by acclamation and Halleck said the committee will play a vigorous role in next year’s elections as control of the House appears inevitable. He spoke after a meeting in Ada with the Boren newsprint investigating committee hosted by the Ada Chamber of Commerce.
Brig. Gen. Patrick J. Hurley former secretary of war is nominated to major general. He played a key role in arranging the Allied conferences in Cairo and Teheran.
P Joe Griffin district ration executive said OPA district officials would meet with oil company operators to seek support against a gasoline rationing irregularity.
