Vanoss Opens Open House Showcasing New Gym
Vanoss School held open house last week in a newly built gym. Principal James Carruthers hosted in the new auditorium as 350 attendees toured facilities including central heating, parquet floors, restrooms with showers, a built in snack bar, and a 1,050 seat gym. The former gym is now an auditorium and cafeteria with stainless equipment. The Vo-Ag building houses a four year program with 72 students, a library, and variable class sizes. Teachers include Clem on Stone Thurman Holland Ed Coffey Wayne Holland and James Carruthers. Spann Motor Company donated a new Dodge Polaro. the school was selected for a televised driving panel test with three students and one substitute slated.

Pontotoc District Supervisors Hold Monthly Meeting
Pontotoc County Soil and Water Conservation District held its regular meeting November 28, 1967 at the local SCS office. Attendees included chairman B M Stephens, Dr Harvey Price, C C Buxton, Vel Bumpers, and staffers Kenneth Yoakum Lovell Williams and Peggy Cleere. Plans cover numerous farms and note 1 197 farmers with conservation plans in Pontotoc County. Bermuda grass is recommended with fall and winter plowing, grazing guidelines emphasized to maximize forage and cattle profits.

Miller Proposes Scenic Highway Through South
Senator George A. Miller proposes a southern Oklahoma scenic route designated SH 83 from Hollis to Talihina via the Ouachita National Forest. The plan would rename existing highways and require new signs along about 320 miles, noting gaps in Pontotoc and Garvin counties.

Former Allen Resident Dies At Holdenville
Services for Mrs. Olive Inman 99 were held at 2 pm Saturday in the Allen First Baptist Church. She died Thursday at her son O L Inman’s Holdenville home. Born November 8 1868 in Dade County Missouri to Jonathan and Nancy Glenn she married Lee Inman in Leflore County. Survived by two sons C L Inman Holdenville KH P Inman Wewoka and three daughters Mrs Mary Reed Wesco California Dollie Moody Grange California and Durant Starks Albuquerque. Burial was in Allen Cemetery. Hudson Funeral Home Holdenville staged the services.

Nolan Bullard, 21, has been named Oklahoma State University 4 H extension agent for Pontotoc County. He replaces J Sid Ewing who vacated the position months ago. A OSU graduate, Bullard comes from Jackson County where he taught vocational agriculture for one year. He cited enjoying working with youngsters and the extension benefits. Bullard and his wife Paula have one child Alan. They reside at 501 East 10th and attend the Church of Christ.

Cattle Thefts Being Probed Near Allen
Sheriff Burl Griffin says two whiteface heifers were stolen in the Allen area, Sunday or Monday night from W. W. Smith. A $100 reward is offered for information leading to arrest and recovery. Heifers are heavy springers, right ear cropped, branded number 7. one red at about 700 pounds, the other yellow at about 800 pounds.

Bulls from Holdenville area ranches head the latest testing results with 74 Angus 25 Hereford and three Polled Hereford bulls set for sale Saturday in Holdenville. Top gains include Dr H D Hall with a 4.34 lb day average, his second high pen at 3.66, and a 4.1 lb day bull. Murray Corbin and Carlton Corbin also place in top divisions among Angus and Hereford bulls. Sale starts 12:30 p.m. at the Holdenville testing station sales barn.
