Byrd’s Pole Flights Honored by Hoover Compliments
President Hoover sends compliments for three feats by Admiral Byrd. In 1926 Byrd flew Miss Josephine Ford from North Pole to Spitzbergen and back to King's Bay. In 1927 he crossed the Atlantic in America from Roosevelt Field to Ver sur Mer, France. In 1929 he flew Floyd Bennett from the edge of the Antarctic ice to the South Pole and back.

Picher Man Sentenced Five Years for Manslaughter
Emmett Hedgworth of Picher was sentenced to five years in the state penitentiary after a district court jury convicted him of manslaughter for the March 17 shooting of William Haskins at Mrs Mae Caldwell home. The same day Hedgworth admitted buying the gun and bullets and that Haskins asked him to pay a liquor debt. The shooting followed a brawl over a revolver. witnesses noted all involved were drinking and Hedgworth claimed it was a friendly scuffle.
