It notes Walker’s rumored replacement for Rogers, tax and pension issues, FHA chief Moffett’s resignation, Farley’s 1956 plans, Ethiopian war rumors, and a Sands Springs bombing paid for with five dollars.
Los Angeles August 28 The actor humorist Will Rogers filed a probate will two days before leaving for Alaska where he and Wiley Post perished. The one page document leaves the estate to Mrs Rogers with the estate valued in probate as over 10 000 dollars but unofficial estimates place it at 2 500 000 dollars or more. A September 15 hearing was set in superior court. The will names three children Will Jr Mary and James. Insurance of about 800 000 is noted in the estate and Lloyds policy payments could not be confirmed.
Henry Ford was ordered held for trial in county court after waiving arraignment and entering a not guilty plea to unlawful possession of intoxicating liquors. Bond was set at 5090 by County Judge John Boyce M. Keel.
James A. Farley's Hawaii vacation revived talk he will resign as postmaster general this autumn. He plans to return to Washington to lead the Democratic National Committee and prepare for 1936. Frank C. Walker of Montana and New York is named as a possible successor, though his focus remains the Works Progress Administration program. Farley’s return coincides with a fundraising push by the national committee with Sept. 1 quotas.
President Roosevelt announced a broad set of new deal laws including federal approval of interstate compacts to conserve oil and gas. The gold ban was signed, with neutrality and Guffey coal measures to follow, plus a highway survey linking the Northwest with Alaska and a trade inquiry into farmer incomes and conditions.

George R. Phillips state forester announced about 890000 small forest tree seedlings are available at the Oklahoma forest service nursery for shipment to farmers this fall and next spring. The trees are unsuited for ornament or shade but good for windbreaks farm buildings feeding lots and orchards and for post timbers and fuel. Successful planting results have been observed in the past.
In Wichita Kansas the Bismarck N D team captured the national semi pro baseball crown with a 5-2 victory over the Halliburton Cementers of Duncan Oklahoma. It marked their sixth straight win and they lost no games in the tournament.
Oklahoma City August 28 The board of affairs invites bids at 10 a.m. Saturday for stationery for the September 24 special election. Requisitions from Secretary of State Election Board include 1 127 575 official ballots 58 787 sample ballots 14 900 return sheets 7 000 precinct tally sheets and 300 county return sheets. Complete delivery required by September 14 with 35 percent by September 12 and shipment to all 3 375 precincts by about September 16.
Georgia Governor Eugene Talmadge predicts that if Roosevelt gains the Democratic nomination in 1936 the party and candidate face defeat. He denies involvement in any revolt plan to form a constitutionalists party led by Bainbridge Colby and Cory amid opposition to the New Deal.
Mr and Mrs T C Austin of Crossett Ark say their son Ross Austin believed dead was found safe at a Fort Morgan Alabama transient camp. He wired money and is en route home after sending a letter to Miss Mary Jenkins. The Austins learned of the Greenville Texas body and viewed it, then buried it as Ross.
Governor James Y. Allred said reports of his possible appointment to a federal judgeship in the northern Texas district are mere speculation and offered no comment. He stated the news came as a surprise and he had no information to confirm or deny the claim.
In Massapequa New York whiskey lures used to recapture Frank Buck's escaped monkeys backfired as one drank itself to death. Two other captives endured hangovers and were returned to Buck's camp while about a dozen monkeys remain at large. Authorities scoured the woods for the remaining fugitives.
A fire erupted about 9 PM at the Dave Malemee oil well seven miles north of Konawa during completion. Several persons sustained burns of varying degrees, attributed to a cigarette as the cause.
W B Johnson announces township meetings for tax exemption certificates under Bankhead act for Pontotoc cotton growers. Meetings run Aug 39 in Allen and Sept 2 7 across Francis Maxwell Midland Stonewall Fitzhugh Chickasaw. certificates may be obtained at county agent in Ada after meetings.
Orville Beavers an 18 year old farm youth from Maxwell was injured at a hay press accident in a field near his home. His legs were broken when he slipped and fell feeding hay into the hopper. the plunger trapped him before it could be stopped. He was hospitalized and expected to recover.
Two complaints filed in U S Commissioner W C Edwards court charge Lewellyn Keel an Indian from Stratford Pontotoc County with assault and battery on Indian education field agent Glen C Palmer and with sending a threatening letter two days after the attack. The incidents arose from Keel’s dispute over the expulsion of his three daughters from Carter Indian seminary Ardmore. The cases are noted as rare for federal courts, usually handled by state courts unless against a federal employee or on government property.
Sterling, Aug. 28 CP The conductor on a Chicago and Northwestern passenger train started a chain of messages that traveled 200 meters to send a rescue squad two miles to the Rock River. Five youths aboard a capsized sail boat were saved The rescued were Paul Sharp Junior Rocke William Heaton Joseph Heaton and Joseph Kannally.
The communist army led by Ho Lung pierced government lines in north western Hunan and moved toward Lichow and Changteh. Roads to Changsha are crowded with refugees as missionaries evacuate. Hayman and Bosshard remain in red custody after a year.
The agriculture department in Washington reports world wheat production excluding Russia and China may reach 50 520 000 900 bushels this year up about 60 000 000 from last year. Supplies outside Russia and China likely 240 909 000 bushels less than last year due to a carry over starting 90 000 000 bushels lower than a year ago.
Stillwater Aug 28 Disbursing officers of the resettlement administration received instructions on loan procedures. Regional director D P Trent said preparations are under way to certify eligible new clients for loans in Oklahoma and Texas. He noted more than 29 000 existing clients in the two states.
Hugh White, a Columbia lumberman, won the Democratic nomination for Mississippi governor after unofficial runoff returns. He led Paul B. Johnson of Hattiesburg by about 9,000 votes, with AP tallies showing White 163,245 to Johnson 154,376. White had charged Johnson sought Huey Long's backing to influence Mississippi politics.
Governor Allred announced an extraordinary session to begin September 16 to consider liquor regulation and possibly other matters. He said lawmakers need time to study proposed bills and observe actions in other states and planned to issue a formal proclamation soon.
The British aircraft carrier Glorious reached Malta and prepared to depart for the Suez area. She will be joined by HMS Revenge and HMS Valiant, with the first and third cruiser squadrons, as part of a combined fleet cruising the Shez district.
United States Senators Huey P. Long of Louisiana and T. G. Gore of Oklahoma are set to speak Labor Day in Oklahoma City. Gore will address the Central-North Central division of the Oklahoma Bankers association on the federal banking act of 1935. Long will headline a state wide labor rally with other speakers including Fred M. Brown Morris R. Breidenthal and H. W. Koeneke at the bankers' meeting.
The Methodist conference in London urged its 47 909 members to pray for a peaceful solution to the Italo Ethiopian conflict. George Lansbury argued that worldwide economic unrest drives armament, not the Ethiopian crisis, and urged the church to promote peace over destruction.
