The Elliott family of Oakman ran a small truck garden on one acre in Oklahoma growing tomatoes along with peppers corn beans cucumbers squash cabbage and brussels sprouts They irrigate from a large pond using a pump and plastic hose They sold produce to nursing homes cafes supermarkets and individuals Last year they shipped nine tons of tomatoes though weather reduced the harvest this season The family is nearly self sufficient with milk meat and eggs and even makes a small homemade wine for friends
