The Elliotts Of Oakman Grow Tomatoes On One Acre
The Jim Elliott family from Oakman demonstrates a productive one acre truck garden in Oklahoma. They produced nine tons of tomatoes last year before weather ruined much of the harvest and expect a smaller crop this season. The family also grows peppers corn beans cucumbers okra squash cabbage and brussels sprouts. They irrigate from a pond using a pump and plastic hose system and sell produce to nursing homes cafes supermarkets and individuals. The family is largely self sufficient and even makes wine for friends.
