Thieves Strike at Gaar Corner Church

Thieves stole two large air conditioning units from Gaar Corner Community Church late Saturday or early Sunday. Valued at 400 to 500 dollars, the units were funded largely by women through quilting and fundraisers. Entry was gained via an unlocked back door and Sheriff Burl Griffin is investigating.

Still Spry Birthday for Mrs. Birdwell at 97

Mrs. Emmer Birdwell celebrated her 97th birthday at San Francis Nursing Home with family photos and a large cake. A Texas-born Allen settler who later lived in Holdenville Ada and surrounding areas, she recalled farming and childrearing in earlier days and noted she could drive a team or buggy but preferred not to ride astride a horse.

Oklahoma Fall Hunting Seasons Announced by Wildlife Dept

Oklahoma wildlife officials released fall hunting seasons with a longer deer gun season from November 20 to 28 and split archery seasons from October 30 to November 14 and November 29 to December 12. The report predicts a better year for hunters and game.

Moisture Helps Oklahoma Crops But More Is Needed

Eastern Oklahoma shows improved summer crop prospects while the rest of the state still needs moisture. Range and pasture conditions fell slightly. cattle were rated 8 percent excellent, 78 percent good, 14 percent fair. About 70 percent of cotton bolls are setting, corn mature with 3 percent harvested, sorghums mostly fair, and alfalfa about one tenth cut for a fourth time with light yields reported.
