Thieves stole two large air conditioning units from Gaar Corner Community Church late Saturday or early Sunday. Valued at 400 to 500 dollars, the units were funded largely by women through quilting and fundraisers. Entry was gained via an unlocked back door and Sheriff Burl Griffin is investigating.
Mrs. Emmer Birdwell celebrated her 97th birthday at San Francis Nursing Home with family photos and a large cake. A Texas-born Allen settler who later lived in Holdenville Ada and surrounding areas, she recalled farming and childrearing in earlier days and noted she could drive a team or buggy but preferred not to ride astride a horse.
Oklahoma wildlife officials released fall hunting seasons with a longer deer gun season from November 20 to 28 and split archery seasons from October 30 to November 14 and November 29 to December 12. The report predicts a better year for hunters and game.
Mrs. Simon Patton reports a humorous local incident in Frisco where T. P. Daniel mislaid his eyeglasses in an alfalfa field while baling hay. The glasses were never recovered, suspected to be swallowed by a cow or left in the bale, leaving a light note on farm misplacement.
Eastern Oklahoma shows improved summer crop prospects while the rest of the state still needs moisture. Range and pasture conditions fell slightly. cattle were rated 8 percent excellent, 78 percent good, 14 percent fair. About 70 percent of cotton bolls are setting, corn mature with 3 percent harvested, sorghums mostly fair, and alfalfa about one tenth cut for a fourth time with light yields reported.
A writer recalls a close lightning strike on a native elm at 135 Thompson Drive, with the trunk gouged and bark shredded as splinters flew across the yard. East Central University physics professor Brown Mackin explains sap vaporization caused the explosion.

Rev and Mrs Leo Barber visited Mr and Mrs H H Phil lips Saturday and had supper with them.
Rev. Steve Lilley fills in as interim pastor at the Nazarene Church. Visitors include Mrs. Dena Yates and daughter Mrs. Eppie Wicker with Lawton. Mr. and Mrs. Allie Lieley and Mr. and Mrs. Oleth Myrick of Holdenville. Ada couple Mr. and Mrs. Jack Walker and Virgil Shannon of Seminole visited Mrs. Bertie Lieley and Mr. Lieley recently.
Mrs. Alice Foreman hosted weekend visitors including Mr. and Mrs. John Prater from Hardin City Mr. and Mrs. Earl Tex from Oklahoma City and Mrs. Nell Crosby from Oklahoma City, sharing time in her residence.
Mr and Mrs J H McNutt of Okemah are visiting Mr and Mrs Jack McNutt and Jackie this week, according to local society notices.
Mr and Mrs Lee Crain and Paula of Coolidge Arizona visited their parents Mr and Mrs P H Boddy of Stonewall and Mrs Myrtle Crain of Centrahoma and relatives. They left for home Monday. While here their daughter Mrs Barbara Sherman and three children Enid visited for a week.
Mrs Julia Morrison had been a patient at Valley View Hospital since Aug 2. She returned home Monday.
Mrs. Myrtle Morris is home after surgery at Valley View. Mr and Mrs Clayton Stegall and their son and family from Olney Illinois arrived in Stonewall to live with Belle Stegall. The family and relatives plan to spend the week visiting with Stegall parents.
Mrs Lee Elliott of Fittshugh visited Sunday and stayed with her parents Mr and Mrs C L Gibson. She planned to visit Monday with the Gibson family and others in the community.
Mr and Mrs James Harper and Jimmy of Shawnee visited Sunday with her parents.
Edgar Trow is visiting a brother and sister in California this week.
Deb bie and Kathy West, along with Joyce Ann and Sharon Ward, visited Mrs. West's parents Mr. and Mrs. Jack Saudlin in Bristow. Joyce Ann and Sharon Ward are listed as grandchildren of the Saudlins.
May Johnson is back on the job in Hart. The Ownbey family from San Manuel and Las Vegas visited, with Bob Hatcher helping milking due to Ben Ownbey’s illness. Uncle Erey Ownbey and grandmother Mrs. M. P. Ownbey are mentioned among extensive family visits and gatherings in Arizona and Texas.
Mrs. James Chambers of 505 South Highland wins the latest Photo Quizz prize. She identified a STOP sign a 1964 EC football schedule sign from Continental Can Co Hazel Atlas Glass Ada and a sign for Ada’s Best LATTA TRAILER PARK at Southwest City on Highway 12.
Visitors to the Union Hill and Ada area include Rev. F L Cunningham and many Cunningham relatives from Fairfield Illinois Ada and Sana Anna California Riverside California and Konawa Oklahoma visiting family members and hosting gatherings. Multiple couples Mr and Mrs James Cunningham Warren Cunningham Larry Cunningham Deb ie and others were noted along with visits to Corean Kellams Mary Lou and Maggie Johnson and Fern King and Goldie Houston.
