Pfc Sammie Poe son of Mr and Mrs Albert Poe 430 West Third Ada Okla was killed in action in France July 21 while serving with an infantry unit He entered service March 3 1943 and had been at Camp Butner N C Philadelphia Camp Pickett then overseas He attended Ada schools and worked at Kinsey Dicus grocery before enlistment He leaves parents two sisters Fay and Mar vanell Poe and brothers Morris and Jack Poe The parents were informed by war department telegram and neighbors alerted police after the telegram was left at their door
Spartan Aircraft reveals plans for postwar mass production of two all metal planes. The Sparian Executive refines to a light single engine ship with cruising speed 190 miles per hour. The Skyway Traveler is a twin engine six to eight seat feeder aircraft for business travel.

Eva Lee Choate age 12 of Vanoss fell ten feet from a tree in her yard while trying to catch a locust. She sustained a fractured right hip and fractured pelvis and was reported resting satisfactorily at Valley View hospital. Daughter of Warren and ( Mrs. ) Choate the accident occurred Saturday.
Henry Barton, MS 1/c, arrives in Ada Wednesday after nine months overseas. He has served in the South Pacific since February 1941 and will stay with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Barton, near Byng. Barton sent a telegram from Los Angeles confirming the expected visit.
The Senate confirmed Lt. Gen. George S. Patton Jr. to the permanent rank of major general after unanimous Senate military committee backing. The move follows disclosure of his leadership of the American Third Army in Normandy and Brittany.
Ada Public Library shelves offer a complete Harper s Magazine run from 1850 to 1869 with volumes donated by Mrs. Julia Manville. Librarian Elizabeth Willis curates the treasure as patrons explore the founding era of the publication and its early fashion illustrations and current style articles.

S Sgt Robert S German Jr was wounded in action in France on July 27. His wife received a War Department wire Monday night with no details. A son of Mr and Mrs Robert S German of 918 East Main he had been overseas since February and took part in the first invasion of France.
Ken Brown of station KOMA Oklahoma City disclosed a federal dispute over radio frequencies involving Guatemala and stations in Oklahoma and Kansas. KOMA seeks to move from 1520 to 690 kilocycles to avoid interference, with Coffeyville's KGGF opposing the swap. an FCC decision is expected by September 1.
Gault MacGowan, veteran New York Sun correspondent, was reported captured near Chartres on the way to Paris after a shooting incident in which a companion was wounded. The Germans said they took him to Paris. MacGowan had recently crossed the Brest peninsula with Wes Gallagher and survived multiple close calls on daring reporting assignments.
Putney Virginia August 15 Leon O Wood milking a cow dropped his wallet with 100 dollars in cash a calf gulped it. Wood killed the calf and brought the evidence to a bank which identified 75 dollars in remnants. He recovered a darning needle two fish hooks a driver s license and his A gasoline book from the calf.
Edmond H. Adams, 83, checked his 1884 Topeka high school credits in preparation for entering Washburn University this fall. He says he wants to finish his education, noting his middle name Hercules. Armies of milkweed pod harvesters are being recruited in 29 states with harvests set for September, paid 20 cents per bushel bag of dried pods. Government food officials wonder how much food households have stored as war ends. Officials fear a postwar surplus and price impact as military and lend-lease needs decline. They expect household stocks to rise in canned goods, sugar, tea, coffee, and dried foods, reducing civilian purchases.

The county chapter of the American Red Cross reports 60 new home service cases since August 1 and 30 information only cases. Executive secretary Edith Stuart praises trained volunteers for handling the growing workload as workers follow a fixed weekly schedule and veterans log many service hours.
The Civil Service Commission announced an opening exam for substitute railway postal clerks in Alaska and 32 states. Applicants must pass written tests, be 16 or 18 depending on state law, with no upper age limit. Salary is 2464 dollars yearly for a 48 hour week. Oklahoma City August 15. Rain failed to materialize as heat persisted statewide. Monday highs reached 100s with Waynoka at 105, while Guymon reported the coolest overnight low of 73. Winds from Sunday night helped ease some areas.
Wayne Anderton of Miami was elected chairman of the First District Republican organization. Elected with him were Ida K. Bridwell of Claremore as vice chairman Frank M. Sisson of Bartlesville as secretary and W. D. Herrington of Pryor as treasurer. Speakers included C. R. Nixon and George Schwabe the district GOP congressional nominee.
Sheriff Garland Marrs said Glenn Higdon 40 was beaten and found in a field at Harvard and 7th streets. Higdon, a former partner of the late Ed Waters, who was electrocuted at his property east of Tulsa, showed rock marks and a leather strap around his neck indicating strangulation.
P H C Speer aged 54, oil and gas conservation officer for the corporation commission, died unexpectedly last night in Duncan while on official business. The commission announced the death today.
In Wisconsin fourth district Thad Wasielewski led with 14 645 votes to Anthony Gawronski 5949 as Raymond Cannon trailed. Fifth district Andrew Biemiller led PAC rival Clem Kalvelage with 5951 vs 3897. In Senate race Alexander Wiley led 98166 to 45745 for Joseph McCarthy and others.
Hollywood notes Stephen Crane will not contest Lana Turner divorce suit and will likely sign an agreement giving Turner custody of their year-old daughter Cheryl Christina. Alan Ladd receives draft notice for Sept 4 after earlier medical discharge. Roscoe Ates facing cruelty divorce suit from Leonore Bell Ates. Barbara Hutton Grant, 31, says her separation from Cary Grant 40 remains friendly and no divorce is planned.
The London headquarters of the Association of Polish Scouts and Guides reported the execution of 32 Boy Scouts in Poland early last month by German occupation authorities. The killings followed a mass arrest in Nowy Sącz during an inquiry into Scout activities.
Governor Thomas E. Dewey will issue a Labor Day proclamation for New York state outlining his views on workers problems. He declined a special message to AFL publicist Philip Pearl, saying he does not issue special messages. Pearl criticized Dewey as too busy to spare Labor Day remarks.
Oklahoma highway patrol reports six of seven months show lower accident totals than 1943, but deaths and injuries rose in July. Totals: 872 accidents, 24 deaths, 343 injuries. Oklahoma County led with 340 accidents and 87 injuries. Tulsa 64 accidents. Muskogee 38. Comanche 18. Kay 15. Canadian County saw many injuries compared to accidents.
Lt. Grant Sturman recently returned from service in Italy with the air forces and Mrs. Sturman left Tuesday for Mount Carmel Illinois to visit Lt Sturman s parents for several days. They will return here then go to Santa Monica California where he will report for further assignment Sept 1 Their baby daughter remained with her grandparents Mr and Mrs W A Delaney Jr
The Tupelo Methodist church will hold a revival starting Sunday evening August 20 and continue indefinitely. Pastor Rev. Sage E. Jared leads services assisted by Rev. Harvey Cuman of the Asbury Methodist church. Services run nightly at 9 o clock except Saturdays. The public is invited.
Census Bureau reports the 1943-44 U.S. cotton supply ending July 31 totaled 21,728,605 running bales with a carryover of 10,659,952 bales from the prior year and a year end carry of 10,726,888. The Agriculture Department had forecast an 11,022,000 bale crop for 1944-45, implying a supply near 21,748,000 bales.
Mrs. Vera Brundidge and her son Gary Michael of Corpus Christi departed after visiting Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Kite southwest of Corpus Christi and other friends and relatives. They are former Ada residents.
