Clarence Brown a 20 year old Chickasaw Indian confessed to a brutal multi murder that killed his mother Lizzie Smothchey brother Joe Brown and stepfather Sam Imo Richey. After hours of questioning he admitted planning and carrying out the slayings to gain control of land and affairs. The trial opened with him appearing calm in the dock as the death warrant mindset hung over the proceeding.

Climber Higgins Faces Turner Falls Danger
George Higgins of Wayne, I T successfully climbed Turner Falls today but slipped back into the pool after reaching the top. He clung to the precipice to save himself as spectators offered five dollars for a Castle Rock ascent, then reached the summit before a hold gave way and bathers threw a rope to rescue him. Washburn of Gainesville Texas previously made a hand over hand climb to Castle Rock and walked away safe.

Monroe House Fire Destroys Elm and Prince Property
The three story and attic house at Elm and Prince streets in New York, where President Monroe died in 1831, was partly destroyed by a Tuesday morning fire that began in a basement rag store. A bronze tablet noting Monroe's death had been placed on the building weeks earlier.

Dr Colby was found unconscious Saturday night around 11 o clock in his office above Citizens Barn. P C Duncan and L E Mitchel forced entry through the tran som and found him on the floor. A local physician treated him for congestion of the brain and he is rapidly improving, expected to be out in a few days.

Poisoning Well Charged in Birmingham Deaths
United States officers have jailed Jim Cooper a Black man accused of placing poison in a Birmingham Alabama well three years ago causing six deaths. A $2000 reward is offered for his arrest. Cooper attempted escape on a Santa Fe train but was captured at Wynnewood. He is held for Birmingham authorities.

Half a Million Skunks Sighted on the Platte
W L Johnson recalls seeing a herd of skunks during 1864 mule work on the plains near the Platte river. The Horton Headlight quotes him recounting a line four times wider than Commercial Street and a half hour of passage through the camp as the skunks moved south without molesting freighters or being molested.
