Two Ada area men Winートers and Huebsch transform the Ada Pony Palace into a quarterhorse sale barn. The August 23 auction features 138 registered quarterhorses from multiple states, with top breeders offering high quality stock. The partners recount decades of horse dealing and new facilities to attract big consignments.

100 Bales To Acre Allen Ranch Gives Top Midland Yield
Ned Biffle, a Midland county rancher and retired oil man, reports 120 acres yielding an average of 100 bales per acre from Bermuda grass planted in 1958 on an abandoned field. He fertilized early with about 125 pounds per acre, added a cover crop of vetch, yellow hop and crimson clover, and has not fertilized since.

Mrs Doner Dies At Home In Francis After Long Illness
Mrs. Paulina Doner of Francis, long married to pioneer merchant August W. Doner, died at 12:20 a.m. Sunday at her Francis home. Services were held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Francis, conducted by Rev. L. E. Perrin. Watts Funeral Home of Konawa directed, burial at Rosedale Cemetery in Ada. Born April 4, 1877 in Franklin County Arkansas, she married August Doner in 1894. they moved to Francis in 1906 where he opened a furniture and hardware store, later expanding to Sasakwa. Surviving are four sons Otto of Sasakwa, James of Tuksa, Gene of Dallas, and Dave of Konawa. four daughters Mrs. W. P. Dickey of Ada, Mrs. James F. Thompson of Clovis, NM, Mrs. Marle Caldwell of Pine Bluff, Ark, and Mrs. Joe Alter of Willard, NM. 20 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Her husband died in 1952 and she had been a semi invalid after a fall some years earlier. She was a Baptist.

Approximately 16 officers and 60 enlisted from Ada Howitzer Battalion move 120 miles to Fort Sill Lawton for a two week encampment. Maj. Walker Gifford leads the convoy with Capt. Roy Wells and Capt. Edmond Hall commanding HQ and Service Batteries. Advance party from Ardmore Lawton prepares, testing field artillery procedures and firing over 200 rounds with eight inch self propelled howitzers.
