The Oklahoma Polled Hereford Association schedules a July 11 13 1971 Southeast district tour with a pre-tour gathering July 11 at McHoma Lodge McAlester a 7 30 p m panel on breed promotion features Harold Hunter Jack Lehnhard Bill Brewer Gil Ives and Ed Meacham. About 300 breeders will visit 15 herds and a bull testing station with noon lunches provided.

Tulsa fair boosts premiums for 1971 Junior Livestock show
Tulsa State Fair offers 67 454 in premiums and awards for the 1971 Junior Livestock Show. The Junior Steer Show features about 1 650 entries from across Oklahoma with 3 145 in premiums including 500 for shorthorn 1 260 for Hereford 740 for Angus 540 for crossbreed and 105 in steer groups. States launch cooperative safe pesticide use program

Wind Damage Across Plains Exceeds Last Season
Wind erosion damaged 4.76 million acres in the seven month period ending May 31 across seven Great Plains states, far below the 1954 55 record of over 15 million acres. Most losses were crops with substantial open range damage. Texas led with 2.77 million wind swept acres and Colorado 276 thousand, Texas 130 thousand. Emergence tillage reached 3.9 million acres to prevent damage as nearly 7 million acres were reported by May 31 in the Southern Plains. Factors include weak plant growth, dryness, and improper emergency tillage.
