Early county results list U S senator Walton with 2865 votes, McKeown leading congress 2677 to 2566, and Wimbish ahead for supreme court by 1820 to 1603. Sheriff Walker, county clerk Peck, treasurer Chamberlain, and other officials show wide margins with remaining boxes unsettled.
Fred Bink Capshaw, former University of Oklahoma student and athlete, is celebrated as he leads with a substantial plurality for the state corporation commissioner post. Campaign support came from former university peers and friends across the state.
AP reports early returns from 119 of 300 precincts show Fletcher Riley leading John T. Johnston for the Democratic nomination in the ninth district supreme court race.
