The East Central Horse Association hosts a sanctioned Oklahoma Appaloosa event at Ada fairgrounds with 38 classes and prizes. Pete Winters leads as show manager, entries expected from several states, judging begins 10 am, office hours posted for registration and seating.
County voter registration docks will close at 8 p m Aug 14 for the primary election Aug 2 The note lists classes and events in western horsemanship and reining for youth and senior divisions It also states voters must be U S citizens over 21 and have residency requirements in Oklahoma for six months county two months and in the precinct immediately preceding the election
An Alabama flag bearing pickup smashed the Ada tennis courts fence on Monday night tearing down two nets and almost striking players before fleeing. Police found the vehicle behind the college apartments at Jith and Stadium Drive. A later report claimed the pickup was stolen from a motel in Vinemont, Alabama, by William Herbert Dicky. Witnesses described several young men in the vehicle. investigators sought the driver.
Youth Week at the First United Methodist Church begins tonight at 6 30 for junior and senior high students and new graduates. Rev Harness Watting Jr of Central State College Edmond leads a week themed Youth Style of a United Method with films wa termelon feasts and the Mystery Ramble concluding Friday. Beau mont Youth Choir performs Tuesday at 7 80 in the church sanctuary.
Corpus Christi reports heavy losses estimated at 375 to 500 million dollars as power and water are restored in the city while nearby towns remain without utilities. Curfew, Guardsmen patrol, and fire threats persist with dozens of hotels serving repair crews and a large oil storage tank burning on the shore.
A rural Wilburton shootout left a young highway patrol trooper and an oil field roughneck hospitalized with bullet wounds. Trooper Bob Stevens 25 pursued James M. Moore 24 after a confrontation at Moore's residence. Stevens was wounded in the forearm while Moore was shot in the leg and underwent surgery at McAlester General Hospital.
About 90 percent of Pontotoc County farmers have received payments for 1970 wheat, feed grain or cotton programs. Payments proceed as farmers certify compliance and records are processed in New Orleans. By mid August most payments should be issued, boosting local spending and stabilizing supply and prices for farmers and consumers.
Enrollment for Stonewall and Ableso schools begins Wednesday August 12 for seniors and juniors with freshmen and sophomores following day. Kindergarten through fifth grade enrollments set for August 21, bus routes unchanged. Parents must bring immunization records as required by state law. kindergarten age limit is five by November 1, 1970.
Oklahoma City AP report says action was taken after a Cimarron River fish kill near Keystone Reservoir blamed on spills from Midland Co operative and Kerr-McGee refineries. Shakely notes flood washed oil into Skull Creek and River. measures include raising a dike and diverting runoff at Midland and installing oil traps at Kerr-McGee.
