Old Turtle swimming hole remains a cherished local spot
Residents of Van Oss and nearby Sandy County recall Old Turtle as a long standing, beloved swimming hole on land owned by W T Gasaway. The shaded pool offers nine feet of cool water and a sandy beach where families picnic and kids swing from a rubber tire rope before jumping into the creek. Martin Marietta crews nearby shape the sand as locals hope the site endures.

Ada Rodeo opens Tuesday at the Ada fair grounds on North Broadway with a big parade at 2 30 p m. Many roundup clubs bands and floats will participate. Prizes go to top roundup clubs and oats. The Posum Kingdom Drill Team 32 girl riders ages 10 to 18 will perform carrying flags. Girls wear red satin shirts white fringe and gold ties with white belts hats. Performances begin at 2 30 p m each evening through August 11. Clyde Crenshaw Horatio Ark provides stock. Jimmy Miller will perform trick riding.

Regents OK Expanded EC Program at East Central State College
The state board approved expanded undergraduate and graduate courses in chemistry biology and physics at East Central State College as part of preparations for the Water Pollution Laboratory rising south of Ada. The plan includes near term staff recruitment and collaboration with the lab, with construction of the first unit for about 2.5 million dollars and 60 000 square feet of space expected to start by December, aiding student work and future employment.

Seminole Drilling Co. drilled the Thompson No 1 A well one mile east of Jesse in Pontotoc County. After sand fracturing the Cromiwell sand, the well produced about 30 barrels per day. Phillip Boyle Ing. of Oklahoma City owns the well, with total depth 3,282 feet.
