Oklahoma senators clashed over funds for Mrs Mabel Bassett commissioner of charities and corrections prompting a night session to finish the appropriation bill. The session also handled tax measures including a two percent use tax and auto license changes with a road note bill and beer tax cuts moving forward.
The $13,000 damage suit against Wick Adair and Ada Transfer Co. by W. R. Moore continues in district court. Leo R. Moore, a high school student, was injured March 3, 1936, when a Ada Transfer truck backed onto Highway 48 in Ada, causing a crash into a pipe laden trailer. The case began Wednesday and testimony for the plaintiff was not finished when Judge Tal Crawford adjourned court.
Oklahoma City April 28. The state corporation commission heard recommendations to cap Oklahoma’s oil production at 622,700 barrels daily as proposed by the bureau of mines. The proposal marks a 2,240 barrel daily rise from April demand, with requests for increases from Sinclair Prairie and Magnolia. W J Armstrong warned that exceeding the estimate would waste storage while noting storage gains nationwide.
Howard B. Smith known as John the Baptist surrendered to a U S marshal in Newark and was held on 2500 bail in Los Angeles on a fugitive warrant. Indicted with John West Hunt for transporting Delight Jewett a 17 year old cult member from Denver to Los Angeles under federal Mann Act charges.
About two dozen people attended a pecan demonstration Tuesday morning at the Smith farm near Ada. Prof. McGinnis of Oklahoma A&M horticulture and landscape work led the session, covering budding grafting and the dehorning of oversized trees. L A Kite, a 60 year old Ada resident and carpenter contractor for 23 years, died Tuesday night at 8 10 after suffering a stroke at work last Friday. Survived by two daughters Olivia Woods and Olvia Campbell of Ada, three sons Edwin Kite of San Francisco Marley Kite of Anadarko and L D Kite of Ada, sister Olivia Seaman Mineral Wells TX and brother P P Kite Ada. He was widely known among Ada and Pontotoc county residents.
Mrs C Guy Cutlip announced the Oklahoma Federation of Women's Clubs will hold its 1938 council in Enid after an invitation from Enid and a prior invite from McAlester. The state board of directors will outline next year’s activities this week. The last Women’s Club elected Mrs Tom McSpadden Chelsea as president with officers Mrs Paul Ford Billings secretary Mrs Theodosia Henry Tulsa and Mrs William M Van Divert Nowata as treasurer.
Gov James V Allred announced that Texas would hold a special legislature session immediately after ad journment unless the senate votes on a bill to repeal the 4 year old law legalizing horse race wagering. The house passed the bill by a large majority and it has been favorably reported by a senate committee but remains on the calendar despite several two thirds vote attempts.

A marriage license was issued Wednesday from the court clerk's office to Wedell Flatt 21 of Oil Center and Jewell Reaves of Ada.
Pi J Beavers filed robbery with firearms and car theft charges against three state prison convicts and two Taft men. Two other convicts face car theft charges as guards report solving robberies and thefts with 10 trustees arrested at the Taft prison camp 10 miles west. Warden Dunn promises investigation and says the camp may be abandoned temporarily. guards ordered to McAlester after search found two shotguns and a pistol.
London April 28 The Wallis Warfield Simpson divorce from Ernest Aldrich Simpson could be finalized on Tuesday May 4 if the court schedule holds. Final decree to absolve Mrs Simpson is sought, with no firm details on a royal marriage date beyond secrecy.
Frank Henry Flippen died at age 70 after living in Ada since 1931. Born March 27, 1867 in Woodville Alabama, he earlier moved to Van Buren and Pontotoc county. Survived by wife Susie Singleton, daughters Bess Hicks Ada and Jean Flippen Beaver, and sons Jack Ada Tom Cleveland Joe New York City, three grandchildren, and brother Will Flippen Van Buren Arkansas. He was an early southeastern Oklahoma settler with many friends.
A law restricts foreign physicians from practicing in Turkey unless they held licenses granted by the government before 1914. The rule tightens oversight of medical practice and limits foreign medical workers seeking to operate in the country.
Tension eases as Ohio and Thames rivers fall from record highs. Ohio at Pittsburgh receded with a 45.7 foot peak at Wheeling and faces minor rises downstream. Thames dropped from 28 feet above normal, London Ont. left slime due to floods while farmland remained submerged. WPA crews prepare cleanup and Wheeling Island shelters feed 700 residents.
Muskogee April 28 Preliminary plans for a drive to unionize Oklahoma WPA workers were revealed by Dave Fowler head of the state committee for industrial organization. He said relief workers in Henryetta Okmulgee McAlester and Hartshorne invited him to visit and discuss organization. Fowler will address a Henryetta mass meeting and assess CIO affiliation with WPA groups.
Oklahoma City April 28 Al W Horton vice chairman of the state board of affairs says he will not resign despite a Nichols prediction that Horton plans to resign to lead an initiative petition for a one house legislature Horton returns from Seminole and notes uncertainty about leading a unicameral drive while Nichols had urged his resignation to head the effort
Audie Huber formerly of Ada sustained injuries Monday in Enid when her car collided. Her 18 year old son Bobby suffered two broken ribs. Both were treated and to return home from hospital Thursday.
In Oklahoma City on April 28 a House committee in secret discussed an engineer report valuing Clinton Baptist hospital at 118 421 and McAlester Albert Pike hospital at 90 609 The report supports a 150 000 bond issue to acquire McAlester hospital as an auxiliary to University hospital and Clinton hospital for the same purpose Signed by R R Owen and E W Sippel the report followed a Clinton delegation urging approval of the appropriation bill.
A 25 year old gunman held up a Texas and Pacific train at Pecos Texas firing seven shots at three officials before setting the engine on fire in a failed attempt to escape with the 50 car train. He was captured three hours later at Toyah by Sheriff Louis Roberson and a posse.
London report says the Royal Academy banned Oswald Moser’s painting The Lord of Creation because a chained man led by a young woman resembles Edward Duke of Windsor. Moser, 65, denies any abdication reference and notes the work was completed over two years ago.
The senate judiciary committee agreed to vote on the Roosevelt court bill no later than May 18 after a closed meeting. Senator Logan proposed May 11 but was objected to, with all members agreeing to the May 18 showdown. An earlier vote remained possible if ready. Leaders of the opposition planned to oppose all compromise proposals.
John Garland Pollard former Virginia governor 1930 to 1934 died early today from bronchial pneumonia at age 66. He was chairman of the VA board of appeals and had been ill for some time.
Jack Scott age 17 from St. Louis died after transfer to McAlester prison hospital amid questions from Ada doctors about his illness and failure to eat. Sheriff Clyde Kaiser said Scott, charged with killing deputy Alvis Jones of Pontotoc County, was sickly after a period of forced feedings and medical tests.

He had been unconscious 24 hours. lack of food worsened prior meningitis. Scott from St Louis, moved to prison hospital four days ago as parents arrived.
