Dairy Purchases Seen Doubling Under Price Support

U SDA analysts expect purchases of butter cheese and powdered milk under the price support program to double this year to about 7.3 billion pounds of milk equivalent with costs potentially surpassing 740 million dollars. Increased production and Carter’s higher milk price supports drive the rise as surplus products are held for market sale or donated to schools and foreign aid. In the prior year 3.4 billion pounds were bought at roughly 311 million dollars as prices rose and output grew. Separately the FDA proposed stricter limits on certain antibiotics used in animal feed to curb resistance while permitting therapeutic veterinary use.

Windbreak study planned across five Great Plains states

The Agriculture Department’s Soil Conservation Service will study windbreaks in Kansas Nebraska North Dakota Oklahoma and South Dakota to count existing rows and removals. Iowa State University will pick sample sites for the 1975 GAO action noted report. Peanut price supports under new farm policy debate

The Agriculture Department plans a compromise peanut price support that cuts the current budget yet would guarantee a minimum 6.6 percent national profit to farmers next year. Senate Ag Committee was to vote, while Carter stays distant from the bargaining.
