Commander Noel Davis and Lieutenant Stenton Wooster were killed when their giant American Legion plane crashed near Messick Virginia while en route to a New York Paris flight. The aircraft carried over 13 000 pounds and reportedly developed engine trouble before plunging into Back River. Davis had an illustrious naval career including service with Admiral Sims and Strauss and authoring aviation texts.
