By W. L. Knickmeyer, the H. C. Yowell rockpile near the Egypt home is described as a trove of memories for Mrs. Yowell. She brushes through fragments of mica lava and an old paving brick, recalling moments from the past.
Senator Mike Monroney will be speaker for the Roff High School commencement on May 25, as announced by Supt. Richard Swink at the April PTA meeting. The program title is Citizenship Begins at Home and panelists included Mrs. Shelby Sherrill and others.
About 275 Pontotoc County 4-H members took part in county round-up events at Ada churches. Top boys and girls earn cups. 12 boys will represent the county at the state 38th H Club Round-Up in Stillwater May 26-29.
Irl and Willard Rhynes combined the Bar X with their Wrinkle Sock spread south of Stonewall by purchasing the adjoining parcel from Forest Simpson. The two ranches share a two mile boundary and the new addition will operate as a cow outfit within the Wrinkle Sock ranch.
Chairman Guy Pegg of Pon totoc County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee urged wool growers who marketed their clip between April 1 1958 and March 31 1959 to file applications for payment under the national wool program by April 30. The payment rate will be announced soon after. Prompt filing speeds the payment process as data is used by the U S Department of Agriculture to compute the average wool price received in 1958.
Vanoss alumni prepare for their annual banquet set for June 6 at 8 p m in the Vanoss auditorium. Carson Phillips president Earl Franks vice president J T Murphy treasurer Connie Nelson secretary outline committees with Raymond Corvin to serve as master of ceremonies and Ed Cavener Kenneth Brendle Doyle Cox Otis Webb Foy Jones named to nominating and Lorraine Jones heading the decorating group.
Lula Thomas Knighten, 49, died at 1 p m Thursday at his home Allen Route 1. Services were 2 p m Saturday at Red Oak Baptist Church north of Lula with Rev B J Garrett officiating. Burial followed at Red Oak Cemetery. He leaves a wife Lula Knighten and four daughters and four sons all of the home.
The last half of the basic aid funds has been received for the nine county high schools. Mrs. Darmeda Ryan, assistant county superintendent of instruction, advises.
Francis Allen will host a Sports Festival and carnival on Friday April 24 at the football field starting 7 p.m. Students from grades 1 to 8 compete in tug of war high jump sack race broad jump baseball throw and multiple dashes. Admission is 10 cents to cover trophies and awards.
A large April 12 dinner at Mr. and Mrs. Glen Phillips in Francis reunites Fred Matthews and nine relatives including Ann Ethel Rae Charles Don Dortha and Ernest with many others present from Ada Salina and surrounding areas. A pink and blue shower honored Mrs. Don Pherigo at the Baptist parsonage and multiple locals contributed gifts. Community members note recent moisture with no hail and several visits and dinners around town.
Mr. and Mrs. Mirl Moon hosted a birthday party for their son Joe Edd on Wednesday April 15 at their home. Guests included Dean Chaffin Howard Canada Darrell Phillips Ronnie Robinson Jack Haley Linda West Francis Brown Neil Rice Karen Rice Beverly Baker Don Matthews David Kelley Dennis Harris Buddy West Patricia Harris Philip Myers and Gene Taylor. James Rice assisted in the serving.
Mr and Mrs Clennis Wilson and their children from Oklahoma City visited here with his parents Mr and Mrs Bob Wilson and their son Lindel during a family gathering.
Mrs Florence Lee hosted a birthday party for her daughter Peggy at their home on April 8 assisted by Mrs Ralph Stallworth and Mrs Glen Pud Smith. After games Peggy opened gifts and guests Patricia Franklin Bobby Harris William Harris Frank Fountain Sheryl Hooser Francis Gary Elaine Brown Jerry West Sharon Matthews Karen Rice and Peggy enjoyed cookies cupcakes pop and ice cream.
Mr and Mrs Havern Canada and their three boys Howard Ronnie and Marty recently visited Mr and Mrs Buddy Scroggins of Sasakwa.
Mrs Leona Edwards left Valley View Hospital after several days with a broken hip and is staying at the home of Mr and Mrs Bob Lee. She lives alone and cannot stay by herself though she is doing fine.
Lawrence Reed has shown progress since the last report. He can manage a wheelchair and visit other patients, with hopes he will soon return home.
Mr and Mrs J M Chism have returned home after visiting a daughter. Mr and Mrs Lester Kimes and children Charles and Barbara of WeWoka were mentioned in the outing.
Mrs George McCurley honored Mrs Lois Thompson with a pink and blue shower held last Thursday evening at 2 30. A treasure hunt featured Mrs Lois Thompson as the hunter. She opened gifts after finding treasures with Mrs Burneice Reed assisting. Givers included Margent Burns Gladys Thompson Opel Wiles Helen Thompson Geraldine Spears Thelma Killion Bernice Killion Helen Scott Minnie Maloy Cordie Davis Della Chaffin and Mrs George McCurley.
Mr and Mrs B M Stephens visited her father C D Gentry at a Pauls Valley hospital on Saturday where he has been ill for about two weeks. They returned him to his home in Stratford Saturday afternoon.
Mr and Mrs B M Stephens Mr and Mrs D W Maloy and Mr and Mrs Arvel Davis visited with Mr and Mrs Louie Mos hier late Thursday evening.
Mr and Mrs George McCurley visited his uncle Mr J W McInally of Stewart Sunday afternoon and gathered poke salad to cook for Monday dinner.
Mr and Mrs Odus Wiles and their children visited Mr and Mrs Orval Crantford at Owl Creek Sunday evening in a brief social gathering.
Sixty six attended both the morning service and Sunday School at the Pentecostal Holiness church. Rev. B V Pendley led the morning service and Rev. Jimmy Riddlespurger preached in the evening.
News of Uncle John Roberts being in Oklahoma City hospital with serious illness. He is a brother to Willis Roberts and Rev. Ellis Roberts of Tulsa.
Mr. and Mrs. Orbrea Roberts spent Sunday in Oklahoma City with Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Wiles and family. They visited during the trip with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Odom and Patsy.
Mrs Cordie Davis visited her cousins Mr and Mrs Pete Halloway and Kay Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. Virl Loman and Mrs. Daniel Boone and children of Ada visited Mr. and Mrs. Dub Scott on Sunday afternoon.
Dub Scott and Jimmy Edwards were seen in Eufaula on Sunday morning as part of local activity.
Visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Odus Wiles Saturday night by Mr. and Mrs. Olen Brannon and their Oklahoma City daughter Cynthia. also present were Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Brannon and Cynthia, along with Mrs. Melva Meeks.
Mrs Vera Roberts and Don Roberts attended the funeral of her aunt in Tulsa on Saturday.
Mr and Mrs Gerald Suton and their son from Wichita Kansas spent the weekend with relatives. Mrs Suton had a tonsillectomy Saturday and remains with Mr and Mrs Willis Sutton this week. Gerald returned to work in Wichita Sunday afternoon. Guests Sunday included Mr and Mrs Jimmy Rutherford Mrs Euvonne Franks and Janice Dorotha Tucker joined them for dinner.
Mr and Mrs Doyle Lee Evans and their boys from Shawnee spent the weekend with Mr and Mrs Alva Evans. They visited George and wife of Stonewall, Evans grandparents.
Mrs Mildred Sanders was released from Valley View Hospital Monday morning after three weeks recovering from a heart attack. She is reported to be doing nicely.
Mrs Jewel Jones visits Mrs Elva Lane on Friday afternoon. Reportedly Mrs Mattie Ellis is in Valley View Hospital suffering four broken ribs from a fall at her home Tuesday.
Mr and Mrs Albert Crow visit Mrs Alman Loman and family of Sulphur while Charlie Crow, a patient in Ardmore hospital, had a severe heart attack a few weeks ago.
Alman Loman died after a heart attack. Attendees at his Sulphur funeral included Mrs. Albert Crow Mrs. Adeline Abbott Mr. and Mrs. Jack Perrine and Mrs. Lizzie Walker.
Those visiting Frank Lewis over the weekend were Dewey Cox, Alva Evans, Earl Hassell, Doyle Evans and son Ricky of Shawnee.

Florence Isaacs visited Friday night with Mr and Mrs Judd Horton of Ada. Mr Horton had just returned home from the hospital. Their son Austell, who lives in Oklahoma City, underwent ear drum tumor removal surgery. The Hortons are former Parish Chapel residents. Austell’s wife is Rachel Burch.
Mr and Mrs Vernon Gray and family spent Sunday with his sister Mr and Mrs Kenneth Cole and family and Joe Gray of Conerville.
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wilson and their baby visited Mr. and Mrs. Junior Willoughby and family and Mr. and Mrs. Colby Nelson and family over the weekend in Oklahoma City.
Mrs Billie Ray Crookham of Sapulpa spent the weekend with her parents Mr and Mrs Virgil Farmer, sharing time at their home.

Mrs C M Hammer and two children from Brownsville Texas came Thursday to Ada to visit Mr and Mrs A L Smith and Mr and Mrs Coy West. They returned home Saturday morning. Mrs Hammer is the former Mabel
Mrs. Alice Richardson of Oklahoma City visited friends in Roff on Thursday. She was an early day grade teacher in the Roff School.
Mrs. Helen Robnette Vera Bunyard Mrs. Harold Davis and Mrs. Margarete McDaniels attended the Ardmore district annual meeting of Woman's Society of Christian Service held Wednesday at the Methodist church in Madill.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lunsford of Oklahoma City visited the home of Mrs. Annie Sheffield for the weekend, sharing time with family and friends.
W A Earns was admitted to Valley View Hospital Thursday and returned home Sunday afternoon.
